DASMA is honored to stand alongside Eric and Dayna Quanbeck, the AFA, and industry leaders in the ongoing mission to elevate safety standards. Together, our collective advocacy has led to life-saving updates in the upcoming 2027 I-Codes, ensuring proper fall-over protection for industrial, commercial, and vehicular gates. The International Code Council (ICC) recently highlighted three life-saving gate safety proposals in the Building Safety Journal. Driven by the tireless advocacy of Eric and Dayna Quanbeck following the tragic loss of their seven-year-old son, Alex, in a manual gate accident, these proposals have officially been approved for the 2027 I-Codes. What You Need to Know:

• The Codes: Proposals G183-25, RB282-25, and PM29-25 will be included in the 2027 I-Codes, regulating industrial, commercial, and vehicular gates.
• The Standards: Reflecting ASTM standards (F900, F1184, and F2200), the updates address exactly when fall-over protection is required.
• The Solutions: Simple, cost-effective structural upgrades—such as fall-over posts, welded J-brackets, or chains and gate keepers—will now be utilized to prevent heavy gates from falling.

On May 14, 2026, the fence and gate automation industry lost a highly respected and decorated leader. Founder of Phillips Automated Gate Service and Fence Company, Phillip Doyle was widely recognized as a leader, advocate, and mentor. His commanding presence and relatable charm made him a beloved presenter at the AFA Operator Installer School, earning him numerous certifications and accolades from the American Fence Association and Institute of Door Dealer Education & Accreditation.

More than his technical expertise, Phillip will be remembered for his incredible character. As his close friend Scott Meckes shared: "Your worth is not in what you have, but how you serve. That idea describes Phillip Doyle more succinctly than anything. He gave freely of his time, talents, friendship, and love."
