Building Freedom Ohio
We want to live in safe, just, and healthy communities. We want to live in a world without cages.
3.5% of the population. That's all it takes to win.
Harvard proved it. Ohio has 2 million of us directly impacted. The country has 90 million.
This is why we build. This is why we organize. This is why we fight.
Full citizenship isn't a dream. It's a demand.
📖 The Loss of American Citizenship
👏 Congratulations to our Executive Director, Fred Ward, recipient of the FICPFM Community Commitment Award!
A directly impacted leader, policy advocate, and community builder, Fred is creating pathways for people returning home to reclaim their dignity, build power, and thrive.
Thank you for your leadership and your unwavering commitment to stronger, more just communities across Ohio.

Governor DeWine's announcement is proof that even longtime supporters of the death penalty can change when confronted with the facts.
But here's what keeps us going:
Every person on death row has a name. A story. A family waiting for them.
And every person returning home from prison deserves the same chance at redemption.
This is what happens when we organize, educate, and refuse to give up. Let's carry this momentum into reentry justice.
Victory is built in layers. Today we celebrate one. Tomorrow we build the next one.

After an Ohio judge denied Ms. Shirley’s son expungement without even looking him in the eye, she felt what millions feel in our courts: invisible.
She chose power instead.
Her story isn’t unique. It’s shared by countless Ohioans who refused to stay silent.
This Saturday, she’s joining our candidate forum to look those judges in the eye and make sure her vote is educated.
Will we see you there? Sign up with the link in our bio or in our story.
Judicial elections are about our lives. It’s about the decisions that shape what we have access to, what we go through, and what we’re up against every single day.
This Saturday, we change that.

To All my folks that have encountered the Justice system, These public offices are for us to engage, be curious as to why individuals want to seat in Judgement seats? We are responsible to who we let Govern our society! This Saturday at 1250 east 105th is a small example of citizens taking the time to listen, ask questions, to those with a desire to serve us! If you’re felony impacted, DON’T give judges power to decide your future without knowing your own ‼️
Judges set your bail, decide how long you stay, choose if you ever get a second chance. BUT that’s not even half of what they do
If you don’t know their power, you don’t know your own and this Saturday that changes 🔥
We’re putting Cleveland’s judicial candidates in the hot seat about what justice actually looks like for our community —
