With all the excitement around our new-to-us 1988 GMC Sierra IndyCar Series Safety Truck, we’re taking it back to 2006 with the Honda Ridgeline IndyCar Series Safety Trucks.

This was an exciting project for us to be part of as it was the beginning of creating lowering coilovers that you all know and love today.

20 years later, it’s pretty cool to look back at where it all started and how much our suspension lineup has evolved since then.

Some tacos are meant to be eaten, others are meant to be lifted.

A closer look into the 1988 GMC Sierra Safety Truck before we make some changes.

1988 PPG IndyCar Series Safety/Medic Truck | 1 of 4 Built This isn’t just a truck. It’s a piece of American motorsport history. One of only four GMC C1500s purpose-built for the 1988 PPG IndyCar Series, this truck served as a quarter-medic response vehicle, deployed trackside at IndyCar events across the country to support driver safety operations.

When the checkered flag dropped and the helmets came off, this truck was there. Built to do a job, not just look the part: it carries a full professional roll cage. Not a factory option, not an aftermarket add-on. A genuine racing safety cage installed for real-world track duty.

The iconic yellow and white Indy livery is stunning, complemented by period-correct racing decals and the distinctive speed-helmet graphic on the bed.

Under the hood: the stout 5.7L V8 (350 cubic inches) paired with an automatic transmission. BBS wheels dress up the corners with proper motorsport credibility. Inside, you’ll find red cloth interior and a subwoofer, a nod to the era when this truck was being driven by people who appreciated both performance and style.

The numbers: 69,777 original miles.
