Two things we love: kids choosing kindness and giving back to their community, and supporting our friends at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. ❤️

Yesterday, West Collierville Middle School’s Kindness Club hosted a car wash to raise money for LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, and Engine 83 stopped by to give the students a little boost and a helping hand with their efforts.

We heard these kids raised almost $2,500 too!

Well done, Kindness Club! We love seeing our Collierville Students put kindness into action and making a difference right here in our community. We are proud of you!

This morning, six of our Collierville firefighters are participating in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb supporting the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and hosted by 1-800-BOARDUP.

Each firefighter will climb the equivalent of 110 stories, representing the height of the World Trade Center towers, while wearing a lanyard honoring one of the 343 FDNY firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

They are making the climb in full gear and air packs, carrying with them the memory of those who made that climb 25 years ago.

As they take on all 110 stories this morning, help us send them a few words of encouragement and support in the comments.

We are proud to have these six firefighters representing Collierville Fire & Rescue today.

The firefighters participating are
Firefighter Justin Williams
Firefighter Juan Diego McAdams
Firefighter Tucker Walker
Firefighter Brandon Nolen
Firefighter Austin Rude
Firefighter Jackson Blakney

Five years ago today, our community endured the tragic shooting at the Collierville Kroger. We honor the memory of Ms. Olivia King and remember all those who were injured or profoundly affected by the events of that day.

As Chief Lane reflects, “I will never forget how the community came together with neighbors helping neighbors. Collierville demonstrated how resilient, caring, and loving this community is while the entire nation watched.”

We remain deeply grateful for the first responders, community partners, and citizens who acted with courage and compassion during an extraordinarily difficult moment for our town.

"As we mark this somber anniversary, we remain committed to supporting those impacted, strengthening our partnerships, and working every day to keep Collierville safe. Our community’s resilience continues to guide us forward, reminding us of the strength we share when we stand together", said Chief Lane.

It may be hard to think about ice and freezing temperatures when it’s this hot outside, but that’s exactly why September is National Preparedness Month.

Some of the most impactful events Collierville has faced in recent years have been weather-related. Extreme heat, severe storms, ice and freezing temperatures can bring power outages, unsafe travel and unexpected days at home.

Take a few minutes now to make sure your family has the basics:

💧 Water
🥫 Nonperishable food and a manual can opener
🔦 Flashlights and extra batteries
📻 A battery-powered weather radio
🩹 A first-aid kit
💊 Medications and medical supplies
🔋 Phone chargers or portable power banks
📄 Copies of important documents and some cash
🐾 Supplies for pets, babies or anyone with additional needs

You don’t have to build the perfect emergency kit all at once. Start with what you already have and add a few items each week.

Tennessee weather may be unpredictable. Your family’s preparation doesn’t have to be.

Yesterday was a humbling reminder of just how much support surrounds our crews.

Throughout the day, our stations were visited by community members, organizations, and businesses who brought meals, treats, banners, gift bags, and kind words simply to let our firefighters know they were remembered. On a day that carries so much meaning for the fire service, those gestures meant more than we can adequately say.

One of the most special surprises came from the little Dragons at Collierville Elementary School. Students created a banner for each of our stations, filled with their names, drawings, and messages of thanks. Those banners are now hanging proudly in our firehouses, where our crews will get to enjoy them long after the day is over. Thank you, little Dragons. ❤️

We are also incredibly grateful to Volunteer Memphis and the community partners who helped provide meals to our stations, Firebirds for providing a meal for Station 5, the Daughters of the American Revolution for bringing donuts for our crews, and Meridian Park Apartments for the thoughtful gift bags.

And we know there may be people, businesses, or organizations who stopped by, sent something, or quietly showed their support that we have unintentionally missed mentioning by name. If we missed you, we sincerely apologize. Please know that your kindness was noticed, and every meal, treat, card, banner, gift, handshake, and kind word was genuinely appreciated.

Days like yesterday remind us how fortunate we are to serve Collierville.

From all of us at Collierville Fire & Rescue, thank you for taking care of our crews while we take care of our community.

Twenty-five years later, September 11 still carries a weight that is hard to put into words.

We remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the first responders who ran toward unimaginable danger. We also remember the many people who answered the call in the days that followed.

That response reached all the way to Collierville.

Following the attacks, three members of Collierville Fire & Rescue, Lt. Joe Billings, Lt. Phillip Reaves, and Assistant Chief of Operations Paul Witt, traveled to the Pentagon with Tennessee Task Force One to help. Billings and Reaves have since retired, but the service of all three remains part of our department’s history.

They were three of countless firefighters, first responders, service members, and volunteers who stepped forward when our country needed them most.

Today, we remember those we lost, we honor those who served, and we remain grateful for the example they left behind.

We will never forget.

🔥We are excited to kick off another year of fire and life safety with the Transitions program at CHS!

Today, the crew from Ladder 86 joined Fire Education Specialist Jessica Curran and EMS Chief R**e to spend time with lots of familiar friends, and meet a few new ones too.

We talked about the many ways firefighters help people, what firefighters wear each day, and the special protective gear they put on when responding to a fire.

Firefighter Brandon Montgomery helped show off his gear, and even showed off a few dance moves too!

The more familiar our students are with firefighters, our gear, and what we may look and sound like during an emergency, the better prepared they can be if they ever need our help.

Fire and life safety education is for everyone, and we are looking forward to another great year with our friends at CHS!

🏈🔥 It’s Football Saturday!

If your game-day plans include the TV on, something in the slow cooker, and the grill fired up outside, we have just one reminder:

Football season may be here. Fall weather is not. 🥵

We’ve had plenty of hot, dry weather lately, so give that grill some space. Keep it outdoors and away from the house, deck railings, overhangs, dry grass, and anything else that can burn. Stay with it while you’re cooking, and make sure everything is completely cooled down when you’re finished.

☀️ If you’re spending game day outside, remember the heat can sneak up on you. Drink plenty of water, take a break inside or in the shade every now and then, and keep an eye on your fellow football fans too.

Enjoy the games, enjoy the food, and cheer for whoever you want, we won’t judge. (Much.)

🏈 Just keep the grill where it belongs, stay cool, and keep game day from getting a little too exciting...

We’re pretty sure you don’t want us making an unexpected appearance at your watch party.

Stay cool. Grill safely. Have a great Football Saturday, Collierville! 🚒
