As October begins, it marks the beginning of National Fire Prevention Week. Just a quick history lesson on Fire Prevention Week. It was proclaimed a national observance in 1925 by President Calvin Coolidge. It is in October to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Each week, fire departments across the country visit schools or host the public at their stations to share fire safety tips.

Today, members of the Midway Fire Department visited Lisha Kill Middle School and interacted with over 600 young people and reviewed some fire safety tips. Some of the topics were creating an escape plan for homes, install working smoke detectors, and sound the alarm at home as a drill.

To continue National Fire Prevention Week, we invite you to our Open House this Saturday, October 3 from 11 am - 3pm at our firehouse at 1956 Central Avenue. Stop by to look at the trucks, learn some safety tips and receive some other treats.

Colonie Little League is at Midway Station 1 at 1956 Central Avenue doing Car Washes from 10 AM to 2 PM. If your vehicle could use a “Shine” please come on by! They are already working on our Ladder Truck!

Come to the Midway Fire Department at 1956 Central Avenue today to support the Childhood Cancer Walk Fundraiser from 2pm till 8pm. Please parking in the Raymour and Flanigan Parking lot.
