Give Hunger-Free Weekends to 117 Students at Swansfield Elementary!

These kids receive free or reduced-price meals on school days, but have difficulty getting nutritious food at home on the weekend. The Blessings in a Backpack program provides a bag of food to go home with all 117 students on Fridays.

Hickory Ridge residents, Columbia Association and the Hickory Ridge CARES Committee are offering free trees and shrubs to increase the canopy in Hickory Ridge! One tree or shrub per property may be requested on a first come - first served basis for CA assessed properties in Hickory Ridge. Up to 100 trees and shrubs will be given away. In August, Columbia Association will begin removing invasive bamboo at the corner of Hickory Ridge Road and Cedar Lane. The goal of this project is to reduce the impact of the running bamboo in that location and in our natural systems in Columbia. Bamboo removal can take 5-10 years realistically and is often unpredictable. However, leaving bamboo unchecked may compromise homeowners' property values, damage infrastructure, and reduce biodiversity.
