Every week, we’re reminded that cancer doesn’t just affect a person’s health—it can impact every part of everyday life. That’s where The Zaching Against Cancer Foundation steps in. 💪

This week, here are just a few of the patients we have helped:

💧 A 9-year-old battling a Wilms tumor, whose single mom has limited support, by helping with a water bill.

💳 A 64-year-old lung cancer patient by helping cover a medical copay.

🛒 A 53-year-old breast cancer patient who lives with her daughter and is struggling to afford groceries.

👚 A 42-year-old breast cancer patient recovering from surgery, helping her purchase new clothing that fits comfortably after her treatment.

📦 A 36-year-old cancer patient experiencing financial distress after being out of work, with an Amazon gift card to help with everyday needs as her out-of-pocket medical costs continue to grow.

🥣 A 79-year-old cancer patient who is having difficulty swallowing after treatment, helping provide needed nutrition.

This sweet young patient and her family have been facing an incredibly difficult time. Her mom is a single parent of four and her daughter was re-diagnosed with B-Cell ALL this summer.

We were honored to help ease some of her mom's financial burden by helping with her car insurance so she can focus on what matters most—caring for her daughter.

And then we received this adorable thank-you. 🥹❤️

As we close out Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we’re taking a moment to reflect on why we continue to show up for children and families facing cancer. 💪

But we also believe strongly in the importance of research. That’s why we are proud to continue supporting Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the Baltimore Brain Tumor Bashers, including a $10,000 donation this year.

Through the Baltimore Brain Tumor Bashers, we are able to support the incredible doctors and researchers at Johns Hopkins, where Zach was treated. Supporting this work is especially meaningful to us because we know firsthand how important research is to children and families facing aggressive brain tumors.

Helping families today. Supporting research for tomorrow. That’s what Zaching is all about. 💪

We recently learned just how significant that unexpected expense can be.

A beautiful 10-year-old little girl, who was adored and loved by everyone who knew her, lost her battle with neuroblastoma. Her family had chosen cremation and had worked hard to secure the funds needed to cover the cremation itself.

But there was another expense they weren’t prepared for.

$235 for Mom to be able to personally identify her daughter and say goodbye one last time.

Mom had spent so much time caring for her daughter and being there through her treatment that she was only able to work part-time, and at times not at all. Money was already incredibly tight.

So that $235 became a financial burden at a time when this family was already experiencing unimaginable heartbreak.

𝒁𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑨𝒈𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕 𝑪𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒑.

We covered the cost so Mom could have that final moment with her daughter.

𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝑳𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑪𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒓 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒎 𝒆𝒙𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒔.

Cancer brings expenses that families never expect. Some are medical. Some are everyday necessities. And some are expenses no one ever thinks they will have to face.

𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒔, $235 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈.

We are grateful that because of the generosity of our Zaching family, we were able to help this mom say one final goodbye.

Today we want to give a huge shoutout to the Marriotts Ridge High School Field Hockey program for choosing to partner with Zaching Against Cancer for their fall service project!

We are so grateful for the team’s commitment to supporting cancer patients and their families. They are kicking things off by writing cards of encouragement for patients and families alongside South Carroll and Reservoir High School, and they’ll be collecting donations throughout the season to create Zach Packs — care and comfort packages for cancer patients.

Donations will be collected at Marriotts Ridge home field hockey games throughout the season, and the team has also created an Amazon Wishlist for those who would like to contribute from home.

We are especially touched that this project hits close to home for the Marriotts Ridge community, as Zaching Against Cancer was founded in memory of Howard County student Zach Lederer.
