What does it mean to be MOXIE?

If you know Daniel Ra, you know his family's incredible legacy. In 1592, his ancestor, Na Dae-yong, stood alongside Admiral Yi Sun-sin to create the famous Korean "Turtle Ship" (Geobukseon). An innovation for its time, the Turtle Ship protected the fleet from enemy boarding and fire arrows, the dominant tactics of the Imjin War. Outnumbered 333 to 13, their design protected a nation against overwhelming odds.

Hundreds of years later, we see that same spirit in Red Alpha. Every single day, our team's commitment to bold problem solving is why we do what we do. To us, "moxie" means having the conviction to build the Turtle Ships of today, challenging conventional thinking when the mission demands it.

That said, we're incredibly proud to share that we've been selected as a finalist for the Washington DC Moxie Award. 🏆 More than anything, we're grateful because this recognition celebrates that spirit, a legacy inspired by Na Dae-yong hundreds of years ago that continues to shape who we are today. Thank you to our fantastic team, our partners, and everyone who believes in our mission!

If you've spent any time with Tom Shelly, you've probably heard him describe Red Alpha as the last company you'll ever want to work for. This year, we hit an incredible milestone. Over 10% of our engineers (Daniel Ra aside) have been with us for 10+ years. Over 40% have been with us for 5+ years. Everyone in this photo has been with us for 7+ years.

While we know we won't be everything to everyone, it's humbling to know we've become that last company for so many. To everyone who's built your career here, THANK YOU! We're proud of what we've created together and even more excited about the future. 2026 is shaping up to be a spectacular year 🤩

There were a few less runners at this year's race but just as much spirit! Proud of Team Red Alpha for waking up early to finish strong at the AFCEA Central Maryland (CMD) for Excellence, all to help support the next generation of STEM leaders.

Moments like this are about more than recognition, they’re a reminder of the incredible community we are a part of. The innovation, collaboration, and forward-thinking happening across the tech and government contracting space is truly inspiring, and we’re grateful to be included among so many organizations and leaders pushing the industry ahead. That said, CONGRATS to all this year's finalists! Being included among such an impressive group of innovators makes this moment even more meaningful.
