Stand or sit with your feet flat. Press them gently into the floor. Name three things you can see, two things you can hear, and one thing you can feel (a cozy sweater counts).

That's it. You just told your body: I'm here. I'm safe right now.

In Reiki, we begin by grounding: feeling our feet on the earth and connecting to the energy beneath us. Today I'm grounding with gratitude for the land itself, and for the Indigenous peoples who have cared for it for thousands of years.

Here in Ohio, this is the homeland of the Shawnee, Lenape, Miami, Wyandot, Seneca, Odawa, and many other nations. Their understanding that all life is connected, the land, the waters, the animals, and us, was carried and passed down through generations, often through great loss.

That wisdom is a gift. It asks for respect, not borrowing.

May we cherish it, honor the cultures and traditions it comes from, and support the Native communities who keep them alive today.
