Remembering a Brother in Christ today!

Before they can speak, God speaks. Before they can understand, God gives His promises. Before they can reach for Christ, Christ has already laid claim to them.

In Holy Baptism, we are reminded that grace begins with God.

Our children are not merely future members of the Church, waiting somewhere on the outside until they are old enough to understand. They are covenant children…received into the visible body of Christ, marked with the Triune Name, and raised from their earliest days to know that Jesus is Lord, the Church is their family, and the promises of God are for them.

As Pastor Brito recently reminded us, baptism shows us the priority of grace: God acts before we answer. He names before we speak.

And this calling belongs not only to parents, but to the whole congregation. At Providence, we promise to encourage these children and their parents so that they may confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior all their days.

This is covenant life.

From the font, to the Table, through every Lord’s Day and every ordinary day in between, we raise our little ones to know who they are and, more importantly, Whose they are.

“For the promise is for you and for your children…” — Acts 2:39

Soli Deo Gloria.

“This is what it means to be in covenant. Covenant is a gracious relationship with the Triune God, in which we are made partakers of His love and participants in the communion and fellowship that has existed from all eternity in the Godhead. Consequently, all who are brought into this covenant are called upon to live as God lives-in loving, sacrificial, self-denying service to others.”

Steve Wilkins; Covenant, Baptism, and Salvation, ‘The Federal Vision’

“God chose you to be in His covenant, to have that bond with Him in Christ. That choice, worked out in history when you were baptized, is grounded in God’s eternal predestination. He had you baptized, according to His eternal plan. God doesn’t just predestine the ends. He predestines the means as well. In eternity God chose to have you baptized, engrafted into the Church, joined to Christ, the Elect One, joined to Christ’s body, the Church, made a member of his chosen nation. That’s glorious good news. That is privilege.”
-John Barach, Covenant and Election, ‘The Federal Vision’

Believe the gospel and rejoice in the hope of eternal life, amen!

Here He gives Himself to us as bread.
Here as w**e we drink the blood He shed.
Born to die, we eat and live instead.
God and man at table are sat down.

Yesterday we baptized little Nathan Jr. into the New Covenant and we added our brother Rodney into membership.

Christ will build his church and not even the gates of hell will stand against it.
