💩 and p*e is what’s on our mind.

Always 💩 going on around here.

We have 120 cats in our adoption program and we go through a lot of litter. We can’t do it without you, please help us!

We wish we didn’t have to ask for help again but it takes a cat community to take care of so many cats.

We are now offering the Lyme vaccine for your dog(s) at our vaccine clinic. The cost is $35 each and it is a series of two vaccines, 3-4 weeks apart.

Ohio is now considered endemic for tick-borne diseases, especially Lyme disease, and we have found that many of our own foster dogs have tested positive in recent years. See the current map on the Ohio Department of Health website here: https://odh.ohio.gov/know-our-programs/zoonotic-disease-program/media/lyme-disease-map

According to PubMed Central (A database that links scientific articles related to medical journals), the Lyme vaccine is a non-core (lifestyle) vaccine recommended for dogs that live in or travel to areas with high tick populations. It requires an initial two-dose series given 3 to 4 weeks apart, followed by annual boosters. This vaccine significantly lowers the chance a dog develops clinical signs like painful joint arthritis or severe kidney complications; however, it does not completely block infection or protect against other tick-borne illnesses like anaplasmosis or ehrlichiosis. You can read the journal article here: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7733144/

We strongly recommend you speak to your vet about this vaccine and whether you should start this series. Our vaccine clinic does not take the place of full-service veterinary care, and you should follow your pet's veterinarian's recommendations on any and all preventative care prior to coming to our clinics.

While you do not need to have the 4DX test (blood test for Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasma) prior to starting this vaccine, we strongly recommend that you do so should the test result be positive, then you can schedule an appointment with your vet to address the positive disease. Flea and tick medications are strongly recommended year-round to prevent the spread of tick-borne diseases.

Vaccine reactions are not common; however, anytime something new is administered to the body, a response is made by the immune system. We do not recommend pairing this vaccine with any other new, first-time vaccinations, as we will not know which caused a reaction if one happens. We also recommend that you do not receive all of the vaccines for your pet at one time. Please discuss your dog's vaccination schedule with your vet and have a plan prior to attending our vaccine clinic.

To expedite check-ins, you will no longer have to fill out paperwork, as we will gather your information when you arrive and we will enter it directly into our system. Clients can also pre-register by clicking here:
https://clinichq.com/.../0a08ddc3-fa16-40f9-b6fa...

We will still serve clients in order of arrival, whether you have pre-registered or not. And you will still need to provide us with PAST records.

We know that Clark must feel like he’s in heaven.

Clark, one of the cats from the hoarding situation where he lived in a cage for the first few years of his life, is the first one to be adopted from that group.

We are not sure how he ended up in a hoarding situation, but he was one of 12 cats who lived in hell for years. He lived in a filthy cage with a litter box overflowing with waste. His food and water bowls were either empty or filthy with algae, bugs, and dirty litter. Every cat had their own cage, except a group of 5 females. The singular cats lived in solitary, never experiencing the companionship of a human or another animal. Such inhumanity is very difficult to understand.

Clark's skinny body was a reflection of the many meals that were not served. His body mass was low; describing him as a lean cat was an understatement. His limbs had missing fur from sitting in filth. The space in his cage was tight, only allowing him to sit, loaf, or turn around. This was his life 24/7 for years.

Clark was the first one rescued from that situation. He was initially shy when he arrived at our facility. He was fully vetted and placed in a condo while he recovered. Once he realized that we were friendly and responsible for his regular meals, he relaxed and began allowing pets and sweet talk. Over time he gained weight.

He was then placed in a staff member's office and allowed to roam. He really enjoyed that, since he went years without being able to do it; however, he began showing aggression toward some of the male cats, but not all. So, his roaming had to be limited and supervised. He began improving but preferred the company of humans. He could not get enough attention and pets. He even loves belly rubs!

When a couple contacted us because they were looking for a friendly cat, we knew they would love Clark.

After meeting him, they knew he was the one. We’ve kept in touch and they sent us these pics that speak for themselves.

This is what his mom had to say:

“So happy to have Salem! He is a sweet and gentle boy. He has bonded really well with Tim. They are two peas in a pod 😊 We keep seeing new parts of his personality come out, and he's met several friends and family members and has come up to all for some head scratches and pets. He has adjusted and settled into our home really well.”

We are thrilled for Clark. He has become the center of attention for his family and well deserved. He is trying to make up for all the years when he didn't receive any of life's basic necessities - sustenance for the body and soul. We can only hope that his siblings will also find wonderful homes like his.

Please visit the following links for the siblings that are ready to be a beloved pet in their forever home. Some are still learning what it’s like to be a cat and once they’re ready, we will post them too!

Here are pics from spay/neuter clinics last week and yesterday.
