Distinctive Kitchen

Kitchen Recipe #7: Clean & Minimal

🏡 Recipe #7, and this one strips everything back. No bold colors, no busy veining — just clean white shaker cabinets, matte black hardware, and a Capri Grey granite countertop doing all the talking through its texture instead of pattern.

This kitchen in Columbus proves minimal doesn't mean boring — sometimes the least busy countertop is the one that makes a small kitchen feel bigger.

Vanity Recipe #6: Modern & Warm

🛁 Still got the single sink your bathroom came with? A lot of older Columbus homes do.

This one didn't anymore. Nebulo quartz, warm oak cabinets, double sink instead of one — no more waiting your turn in the morning. And it's the kind of upgrade buyers actually notice if you ever sell.

📆 Been wondering if you can actually get a new countertop in before Thanksgiving?

Short answer, yes. But you've got about 10 weeks, and that goes faster than people think once you count quote, material pick, template, fabrication, and install. It's not an overnight thing.

Right now there's still enough room to do it without anyone rushing. Wait til October and it starts getting tight.

If it's been on your mind, this is a good week to just ask.

🏡 We couldn't wait to share this one — dust, mess, and all.

Today's recipe breaks the usual format too. No wall, no oak cabinets this time — this is an outdoor kitchen in Blacklick, OH, still under construction. The grill and appliances haven't even completed yet, but the countertop's already down, and it's already stealing the show.

Fall is actually the smart season to build one of these. Get the mess out of the way now, and by the time the first warm weekend hits, it's already cured, sealed, and ready to host — instead of losing the best weeks of next summer to construction.

Steel Grey Granite, leathered finish — a matte, textured surface instead of the usual polished shine — resting on a natural stacked stone base, with a golf course view standing in for a backsplash.

Proof a "recipe" doesn't need four walls, or even to be finished yet, to be worth sharing.

Kitchen Recipe #3: Historic Oak, Refreshed

🏡 The next recipe for your historic oak kitchen! Save this one if you've got a reno on the calendar for next month.

This kitchen in Minster, OH still had its original oak cabinets - full of character, just ready for an upgrade. Out went the old laminate countertop, in came a fresh slab (2 slabs actually 🤣) of Clarino quartz by Viatera. Same warm oak charm the homeowners loved, just a whole new kitchen to go with it.

📓 Is every "quartzite" countertop actually quartzite?

Nope. And it happens more than people realize.

Real quartzite is seriously tough — Mohs 7+, tougher than a steel knife blade. It barely scratches and handles heat way better than most materials out there.

The problem is some slabs labeled "quartzite" are actually marble or dolomite underneath. They can look almost identical, same soft veining and all, but they're much softer stones. They scratch easier, and they'll etch if something acidic touches them.

Here's a simple way to check. Put a drop of lemon juice on a hidden edge and wait about 5 minutes. If that spot dulls or etches, it's marble or dolomite, not quartzite. Nothing happens? You've got the real deal.

We run this test on every slab before it ever reaches your kitchen.

See you in the next lesson 🎓
