Today, we want to introduce you to a very special girl who has joined the Redstone family: Aurora. (Aka: Aurora Red as we have another Aurora with us.)

Aurora is a senior girl who came to us with a significant mass affecting her face.... sadly a cancerous mass. After veterinary evaluation, we were faced with a difficult reality: surgical intervention at this point in Aurora's life would be an extensive and invasive procedure that would cause significant pain due to the placement of the mass, with a very real potential to cause more suffering and significantly diminish the quality of life she has left. Margins needed for this type of cancer have to be very aggressive or it will come back ten-fold.

So we made the decision to choose comfort over aggressive, life altering intervention.

Aurora is entering hospice care with Redstone Husky Rescue. This is not a decision we ever make lightly nor one that we ever want to make. As with all things, we do everything here at Redstone with the welfare and care for the dog in front of us as the top priority.

Hospice does not mean that we are giving up on her. Quite the opposite. It means that our goal is now to make every day she has ahead of her a good day. She will receive the medical care, medications, nutrition, enrichment, soft places to rest, gentle attention, and—most importantly—love that she deserves.

There is another important part of Aurora's story that we want to share. Aurora is also an example of the kind of pet retention case that is incredibly important to us.

We will not be discussing the specific circumstances that brought Aurora to Redstone, because her story belongs to her and her family. What we can tell you is that her owner remains involved in her life and will continue to be part of Aurora's journey while she receives hospice care here with us.

Sometimes, loving a pet means recognizing that you cannot provide everything they need on your own. Sometimes, the kindest thing you can do is ask for help. When Aurora's mom reached out for help, we reached back because it was the right thing to do.

And sometimes, rescue isn't about finding a dog a new home.

Sometimes, rescue means helping a family keep loving their dog when circumstances make that difficult.

That is what we hope to give Aurora and her owner: time, dignity, support, and the ability to focus on making memories rather than worrying.

Ford is putting his paw to the pedal and down to the metal! He's is funded and confirmed for take off August 8th!

🐾 Meet Arwen 🐾

Every dog that comes through our doors has a story. Arwen's story is still being written.

For quite some time, Arwen survived as a street dog. We don't know everything she's been through, but we can see pieces of it in the way she watches the world. She's shy. She's a little jumpy. She's cautious with new experiences. But she's also incredibly sweet.

Despite everything life has thrown at her, she still wants to trust. Recently, we received news we were hoping we wouldn't hear. Arwen tested heartworm positive.

The good news? Heartworm disease is treatable. The difficult news? Treatment is expensive.

Between her initial veterinary appointments, medications, injections, follow-up care, food, enrichment during months of required crate rest, transportation to and from appointments, and all the day-to-day care she'll need while she heals, we're hoping to raise $3,000 to carry Arwen through her recovery.

That's a big number.

But when we break it down, it isn't just paying for injections. It's paying for the quiet moments when she learns she's safe. It's paying for puzzle toys and enrichment to help her through months of restricted activity. It's paying for food in her bowl, gas in the tank to get her to appointments, medications that will help her heal, and every step between "heartworm positive" and "ready for a forever home."

We've said it before, and we'll say it again:

Rescue isn't just about saving a dog.

It's about giving them the chance to truly recover.

💙 Meet Beckett 💙

Some dogs are serious.

Beckett is not one of them.

At approximately 2 years old, Beckett approaches life with enthusiasm, curiosity, and just the right amount of husky drama. Every day is an adventure, every puddle deserves investigating (especially the muddy ones), and every new friend is someone worth meeting.

This handsome Siberian Husky is everything people love about the breed. He's playful, intelligent, incredibly social, and always ready for whatever comes next. Whether he's romping with canine friends, splashing in water, or convincing you that he absolutely must inspect that interesting smell across the yard, Beckett lives life to the fullest.

He's fantastic with other dogs and loves having playmates. The shelter also reported that he does well with children, and based on his personality, we believe he'd likely make a wonderful family companion. Because he's an active dog, we'd still recommend a meet-and-greet with any children in the home. His compatibility with cats is currently unknown.

Beckett handled his bath like a champ, proving he's not only handsome—he's also a pretty easygoing guy when it comes to being handled.

Like any husky, Beckett is looking for a family that understands the breed. He has moderate-to-high energy and will need regular physical exercise, mental enrichment, and plenty of opportunities to be included in family life.

And yes...he's still a husky.

That means if given the opportunity, he'll happily go exploring on his own. He isn't a determined escape artist, but he absolutely needs a securely fenced yard if one is available, or an adopter who is committed to keeping him safely leashed and contained while giving him appropriate exercise.

Every year, I have the same birthday wish. I don't wish for presents. I don't wish for anything for myself. I wish for the dogs.

For those who may not know, Redstone Husky Rescue has been one of the biggest parts of my life for years. It has brought incredible joy, sleepless nights, heartbreak, laughter, amazing friendships, and more dog hair than I ever thought possible.

I've celebrated adoptions that made me cry happy tears. I've held dogs in their final moments because no one else would. I've watched scared dogs learn to trust. I've watched broken dogs find families. And I've learned that every single one of them is worth fighting for no matter the outcome we have.

💜 Meet Aurora 💜

Sometimes the most heartbreaking surrender stories aren't caused by neglect, abuse, or lack of love.

Sometimes they're caused by life simply changing.

Aurora originally came to Redstone years ago with a litter of puppies depending on her. She raised her babies, completed heartworm treatment, and eventually found what every rescue dog dreams of: a family of her own.

For years, she was loved, cherished, and treated as a member of the family.

Unfortunately, as Aurora has matured, she has developed prey drive that has made it unsafe for her to remain in her previous home. After exhausting their options and making an incredibly difficult decision, her family returned her to us so we could find a home better suited to her needs.

We want to be very clear: Aurora was loved. Deeply. This was not a decision made lightly, and we will not tolerate negative comments toward her previous family.

Now Aurora is looking for the next chapter of her story.

At 7–8 years old, Aurora is everything many people hope to find in a husky. She is sweet, social, affectionate, and has a wonderfully balanced energy level. She enjoys playing outside, soaking up the sunshine, taking naps, and spending time with her people.

She is crate trained, house trained, and knows basic obedience cues. She has lived successfully in a home environment and understands what it means to be part of a family.

Aurora does well with medium and large dogs and enjoys canine companionship. However, she cannot live with small animals of any kind, including cats, small dogs, rabbits, or similar pets.

She would likely do well with older children (10+) who understand how to respectfully interact with dogs.

As Aurora enters her senior years, she remains healthy and active, with plenty of love left to give.

It has been a long time coming. Being 75% Husky and 25% German Shepherd made Cosette overlooked by the majority of people. She is a lot of energy, a lot of drama, and a big personality. She came to Redstone after being at her shelter for several months, and here she made several friends that she watched all of adopted over time. She came to us on 9/9/23 and it was a rough time to be a rescue dog. Adoptions stalled and applications were few and far between. Often I tell them that this just means their person isn't looking for them yet. Well, on 5/24/26 Cosette's people finally met her. She is exactly what they were looking for and she is now in her happily ever after. Sometimes, all they truly do need is a little time to find each other.

🐾 Meet Rosemary 🐾

Rosemary has been with us almost since the very beginning.

In fact, she was the ninth dog Redstone Husky Rescue ever took in.

When people meet Rosemary today, they see a quiet older dog who enjoys the company of her canine friends, likes having a comfortable place to sleep, and has learned to trust a small circle of people.

What they don't see is where she started.

Before coming to rescue in 2021, Rosemary spent years surviving on her own as a street dog. We know she lived on the streets for at least five years, likely raising multiple litters along the way. She became so skilled at avoiding capture that trappers struggled for a long time to bring her to safety.

By the time she arrived, survival was all she knew. Survival like that doesn't simply disappear because a dog is brought indoors.

For over a year, progress came in tiny steps.
Not weeks.
Not months.
Tiny steps measured over the course of a year.

Learning that people could be trusted.
Learning that food would keep coming.
Learning that she didn't have to be constantly on guard.

Even now, Rosemary still carries pieces of her former life with her. Some of her behaviors are reminders of the years she spent fending for herself. In many ways, she will always be a little bit feral.

And that's okay.

Because success for Rosemary was never about becoming a completely different dog.

Success was learning that she was safe. Success was finding happiness with our resident pack. Success was choosing to sleep in a bed next to someone she trusts.

Success was realizing she didn't have to survive anymore.

Rosemary is available for adoption, and if the right person comes along, we'd love to see her have a home of her own. However, we've also come to accept that she may spend the rest of her life with us. If that's what happens, we're okay with that too. After years spent surviving on the streets, Rosemary has earned the right to simply live.

And these days, that's exactly what she's doing. ❤️
