On Sunday, June 22, 2026, at approximately 7:13 p.m., officers with the Commerce Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Hunt Street to assist the Commerce Fire Department regarding a report of a possible gunshot victim.

Upon arrival, officers assisted the Commerce Fire Department with an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel immediately rendered aid, and the victim was transported for treatment.

During the preliminary investigation, officers discovered evidence indicating that the shooting had occurred near a residence in the 1700 block of Washington Street. The area was secured, and members of the Commerce Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division responded to continue the investigation.

Investigators conducted numerous interviews, canvassed the surrounding neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance footage, processed the crime scene, and collected physical evidence relevant to the investigation.

Additionally, with the assistance of the Paris Police Department, officers located and interviewed individuals who may have information pertinent to the case. At this time, investigators continue to actively pursue all leads.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made at this time, and the Commerce Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information related to this case to contact the department.

This investigation is ongoing, and no further information can be released at this time.

On June 9th, 2026, the Commerce Police Department received a report of a motor vehicle burglary in the 1100 block of Main Street. Officers responded and began investigating the report. During the investigation, the officer learned that additional vehicle burglaries had occurred in the same area on at least two separate days.

Officers and Criminal Investigators worked together to investigate this case. As a result of this investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for theft of property valued over $750.00 and under $2,500.00 from an elderly individual. On June 12, 2026, Damarcus Jackson was located by the officers and arrested on the outstanding warrant.

Burglary of vehicles typically involves vehicles with unlocked doors. Please protect yourself and remember to remove valuable items and lock your doors. Try to park in locations with cameras, or install cameras to record the areas where you usually park at your residence.

The month is almost over, but we couldn't let it end without recognizing all the hard-working people we have in Dispatch. Don't forget! Today, between 10 AM and 12:30 PM, the City of Commerce will be taking part in a Statewide Emergency Notification test. This is at the request of the TDEM. As part of this drill, local jurisdictions across Texas will test systems used to notify the public during emergencies. Depending on the jurisdiction you are in at the time of test, you may receive a test alert on your mobile phone and/or hear outdoor warning sirens. The City of Commerce will activate its weather sirens as well as send messages through our Hyper Reach emergency notification system at 10:00 AM. Should hazardous weather be present in our area during the test window, the weather sirens will not activate and will be tested by other means.
