For this meeting, pick a book from the library to read and come ready to share your book with the group! Tell us what you enjoyed, what the book is about, and why you would recommend it to others. 🌟

📚 If you picked a book at our last meet-up, remember to bring that book and share about it with the group!

📚 Annual Book Sale + Makerspace Open House! 📚

Join us at Commerce Public Library TODAY during the Bois D’Arc Bash!

Our Annual Book Sale will be open from 10:00 AM–5:00 PM, with plenty of books to browse throughout the day.

From 11:00 AM–1:00 PM, stop by our Makerspace Open House to see some of the creative technology available at the library, including 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving, sublimation, and more.

And the best part? It’s all indoors in the air conditioning! 😎

💚 A Gift in Memory of Nancy McFarland 💚

Now that North Texas Giving Day has come to a close, we are honored to finally share the identity of the generous donor behind our $25,000 matching challenge: Dr. Keith McFarland.
Dr. McFarland’s gift is being made in loving memory of his late wife, Nancy McFarland, whose life was marked by service, education, generosity, and a deep love for the Commerce community.

And what a response our community gave!
Yesterday alone, 47 community members gave $9,924 to our campaign. We are overwhelmed by that generosity. Dr. McFarland’s $25,000 gift will now be added to what our community contributed, creating an extraordinary investment in the future of Commerce Public Library.

This gift is especially meaningful to us because Nancy had the opportunity to see the library’s transformation for herself.

Nancy attended Commerce Public Library’s grand reopening in 2024, about a week before she passed. She was so excited about what she saw—the renovations, the renewed space, and what the library could continue to become for Commerce.

Dr. McFarland has already honored Nancy’s memory through his support of the library, including a previous gift that funded the painting of our historic windows. This new $25,000 gift continues that legacy and will help us build on the future Nancy was so excited to see.

Nancy’s life reflected that same spirit of community service. She was an educator, volunteer, community leader, and longtime supporter of opportunities for children and families. Alongside Dr. McFarland, she gave generously of her time and energy to Commerce and to the university community.

We are also grateful that the Northeast Texas Children's Museum, an organization Nancy helped build from its earliest days, has received a similar $25,000 gift from Dr. McFarland and the McFarland family. It feels especially fitting that two organizations devoted to learning, discovery, and strengthening our community will carry Nancy’s legacy forward.
Dr. McFarland, thank you for trusting Commerce Public Library to be part of that legacy.

And to the 47 people who gave yesterday—and everyone who donated, shared our campaign, encouraged us, and helped spread the word throughout North Texas Giving Day—thank you. Your generosity showed us just how much this library means to Commerce.

Nancy saw something special here.
