ETAMU-Led Fire Data Consortium Uses AI to Improve Firefighter Health and Safety ETAMU researchers are building a secure, AI-powered data consortium to improve firefighter health, safety and career longevity.

Dr. Mustafa Mashal, Vice President for Research and Economic Development at East Texas A&M University, is helping advance Sweetcrete, a lower-impact concrete blend that replaces some cement with sugar beet processing waste and incorporates recycled concrete aggregate. The research will test treated wastewater as a replacement for fresh water in the mix and use artificial intelligence and machine learning to optimize Sweetcrete for strength, cost, and practical applications.

Sweetcrete: ISU Researchers Looking to Take Innovative Concrete Blend from Lab to the Field A team of researchers spanning the fields of civil engineering, materials science, and chemistry at Idaho State University is taking the next steps in optimizing a mix of concrete that’s sweeter to the environment.

The research will examine how freeze-thaw cycles, moisture, deicing chemicals, and traffic affect bridge deck materials to improve rehabilitation decisions and reduce impacts on travelers.
