Yesterday, Mikayla Rea’s PABS (Principles of Architecture & Building Systems) class toured a site at UCA with Danielle Barron, Director of Planning, Design and Construction. The class was able to view a site that is ready for the slab to be poured. What a great learning moment for the interior design students. Thank you, for the invite!

We hope you can join us this evening at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Art for our final panel discussion with Herron Horton, featuring student panelists Kayla Beaty, Summer Crook and Rhea Walls! 5:30 pm!

Architecture & Design: Art in Residence

Go inside a semester-long creative collaboration where fine art, interior design, and spatial thinking converge. During their Spring residency at UCA, artists Jeff and Jennifer Herron led coursework, mentored students in a studio setting, and worked alongside emerging designers as ideas moved from concept to installation.

What began as classroom dialogue evolved into hands-on exploration—blending artmaking, interior design, and exhibition development—culminating in a campus installation shaped by both faculty vision and student participation.

This ADN lecture extends that experience through a panel-style conversation exploring the intersection of architecture and fine art, how those disciplines informed the residency, and the creative and educational impact on students.

Participating UCA students will join the discussion, creating a broader forum that includes both instructor and student perspectives.

Through photography, video, and behind-the-scenes documentation, the presentation offers a multimedia look at the residency, the evolving creative process, and the final exhibition.

Explore the collaboration. Hear the story behind the work. Experience creativity at scale.

✨SENIOR SPOTLIGHT | KARIS MARTIN✨

About Section: Hi! My name is Karis Martin, and I'm from Cabot, Arkansas. I'm a senior IDSN student at UCA, and I am also a part of the track and field team. I chose interior design because l've always had a passion for creating and being hands-on. Growing up, I loved working on home projects with my parents and watching design shows, which sparked my interest at a very young age. Now, after majoring in Interior Design, I am more passionate than ever and hope I can help bring personality and purpose into people's everyday lives.

Awards & Achievements: While being at UCA I have experienced both educational and athletic achievements! For interior design, I received five CIDA-accredited certificates for my work, highlighting the strength and development of my design projects. I also am the school record holder for long jump for the track and field team!I will be graduating with Cum Laude honors, Student Athlete Academic Honors, the ASUN Conference Academic Honors, and a member of the ASID student chapter!

Internship: I interned with Jill Lawrence Designs, where I gained hands-on experience in both the creative and practical aspects of interior design. During my time there, I assisted with selecting materials and final finishes, interacting with clients, and also supporting the final installations. One of the most valuable
parts of my internship was seeing projects come together from concept to completion, which deepened my understanding of the design process and client experience. Jill Lawrence, and her team, taught me so much through this experience, and I couldn't have asked for a better professional to learn from! I will forever look up to her and the business she has built! Thank you Jill! 🤍

Favorite Experience about UCA IDSN: My favorite part about the UCA Interior Design program has been the people I'm surrounded by. The relationships l've built with my peers and faculty have made such a big impact on my experience. The faculty truly care about helping us succeed and push us to become more intentional and thoughtful designers, and I am truly grateful to have gotten to go through this program!

What's next after graduation?: After graduation, I plan to stay local and begin my career in both residential and commercial interior design. I'm excited to continue growing my knowledge through hands-on experience while building connections within the design community. I also hope to travel and explore different architecture and design styles, using those experiences as inspiration in my work. My long-term goal is to keep refining my skills and eventually open my own design business, creating intentional and meaningful spaces!

✨SENIOR SPOTLIGHT | ALEJANDRA ROBLES✨

About Section: Hi! My name is Alejandra Robles. I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. I am a first-generation college graduate in my family, and I chose interior design because of my dad, who has always had a liking for building and creating. Watching him inspired me to appreciate how spaces come together and the process of making something from nothing. I also enjoy the creative side of design, especially selecting materials, furniture, and colors to shape a space. Being part of the Interior Design program at UCA has made me love design even more.

Awards, Certifications, and Achievements:
* Served as Director of Communications for the ASID Student Chapter,
* Recognized on the Dean's List for academic excellence
* Earned a CIDA certified Project

Internship: I'll be interning with Evo Business Environments in North Little Rock, and I'm super excited to get started! I'm really looking forward to learning more about what they do, getting hands-on experience, and seeing how everything works in a real design setting.

Favorite UCA IDSN Experience: My favorite experience in the Interior Design program at UCA has definitely been the friendships I've made along the way. Being part of ASID was also a huge highlight. It was so fun getting involved, attending events, and meeting designers in the field. Those experiences, along with the support from classmates and faculty, made my time in the program really memorable.

What's Next: After graduation, I will be starting my internship with Evo Business Environments. I plan to stay in Arkansas for a few more years to gain experience and continue growing as a designer. I'm especially interested in working in commercial design or furniture design.
