HIGHWAY 501 WIDENING CHECK-IN 🛣️
Work continues both day and night to create a more efficient Highway 501.
The busy stretch of highway between Gardner Lacy Road and SC 544 is expanding to six lanes to increase capacity in both directions and improve traffic flow.
This project is a collaborative effort between Horry County and the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). It's one of several major projects funded through the RIDE 3 Program.
During the day, crews are working in the median to install storm drains. Overnight, crews are focused on asphalt buildup and base installation at the median crossovers.
Over the next few months, crews will install new traffic signal foundations in preparation for new signal poles, which are expected to be installed this winter.
This roadway improvement project is expected to wrap up in the Spring of 2027.

The facility is also the new, permanent home of the Horry County Police Department's Fifth Precinct.
Located at 332 Hinson Drive in Myrtle Beach, the Central Coast Complex is open to residents Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
We ask for patience as systems and processes are brought online at the facility and apologize for any inconveniences as we work through the first few days of operations.

We look forward to welcoming residents to our newest location.
