Program Pillars: Youth Programs, Pre-College Initiatives, Continuing Education, Lifelong Learning
At our Community Education Department, our mission is to foster a dynamic and inclusive learning environment, empowering individuals of all ages and backgrounds to thrive in their personal and professional pursuits. Our four program pillars, carefully designed to cater to diverse needs, are:
Youth Programs: Nurturing young minds with engaging and enriching experiences, igniting their curiosity and passion for learning from an early age. Pre-College Initiatives: Equipping aspiring students with the necessary skills and knowledge, enabling them to confidently embark on their higher education or professional journey. Continuing Education: Providing comprehensive and relevant courses that enable individuals to enhance their expertise, advance their careers, and stay competitive in today's ever-changing job market. Lifelong Learning: Enabling lifelong learners to explore their interests, develop new skills, and enrich their lives through a range of stimulating courses and workshops. With these pillars as our foundation, we strive to create a nurturing and supportive community that celebrates the joy of learning and fosters personal growth and development for all participants. Together, we embrace the spirit of continual learning and encourage each individual to unleash their full potential on this transformative educational journey.

Ancient Borders, Ancient Walls
How do you keep an enemy out?
Thousands of years before modern border crossings, surveillance systems, and checkpoints, civilizations faced the same fundamental question: How do you protect a community from invasion?
From the natural boundaries that helped protect ancient Egypt to the enormous undertaking of China’s Great Wall, civilizations throughout history have built, fortified, and defended their borders. The Romans developed their own extensive system of walls, forts, roads, and defensive frontiers.
But did these barriers actually work?
In this fascinating class, we’ll travel across ancient civilizations to examine why these walls were built, what they were designed to accomplish, and whether they succeeded. Along the way, we’ll discover how ancient societies thought about security, territory, migration, and the limits of trying to control a border.
And perhaps most surprisingly, these ancient stories may give us a fresh perspective on one of today’s most enduring challenges: how societies manage their borders.
Thursday, October 22
4:00–6:00 PM
Tuition: $25.00
