Never Forget honors Firefighter Ronda Sylvest Varnado, the first female firefighter in Louisiana to die in the line of duty.

At 54 years old, Firefighter Varnado was responding to a house fire, driving a fully loaded 3,000 gallon tanker, when the apparatus left the roadway and struck an embankment. The water tank separated from the truck and crushed the cab, taking her life instantly.

Her courage, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Today, we remember Firefighter Ronda Sylvest Varnado and honor the legacy she left behind for firefighters across Louisiana.

Today we honor Trooper Hung Le, he succumbed to his injuries on June 30, 1998, he sustained in the line of duty after his patrol vehicle was struck from behind at a construction zone on I-55 between Ponchatoula and Manchac with his emergency lights activated to protect construction workers. 🇺🇸🇺🇸💙💙💙

This Father's Day, we honor the dads who lead, protect, inspire, and most importantly the ones who left to soon.

Today, we especially grateful for the fathers who participate in our race each year and for the fallen law enforcement officers, firefighters, military members, and first responders who were also dads.
