You know the feeling of bracing for impact β€” reading every hard day as an attack, every setback as something to bind and loose, every quiet moment as the calm before the next assault.

For decades, a certain kind of warfare teaching trained us to live like that. And here is what it quietly cost: ordinary life started to feel suspicious. Wisdom, grief, honest conversation, and rest got traded for constant high alert. That is not discernment. That is a nervous system stuck in fight-or-flight, wearing a Bible verse.

But look again at Genesis 2:15. God put the man in the garden to keep it β€” shamar. Not panic. Not guard the perimeter like a soldier braced for ambush. Covenant care. Cherishing what is precious. Tending like a gardener so life can flourish.

And when Paul finally talks about armor in Ephesians 6, the repeated command is not fight. It is stand. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation β€” those are not weapons for frantic people. They are stability for rooted people.

The war Jesus fought is finished. You get to keep the garden.

This one is drawn from the REWIRED teaching β€” full episode breakdown on the blog and YouTube: https://markcasto.co/rewired-stop-scanning-and-start-abiding-deep-dive-on-episode-3/

Connection is key, so I need you to know...

Jesus didn’t pretend He was fine. In Gethsemane He named His pain, invited people close, and surrendered His fear to the Father.

You're the one everyone leans on. The strong one. The leader with a word for everyone else. And somewhere along the way, you started chasing a "well done" from a crowd that can never actually give it.

Paul wrote something tender to the Corinthians: "Though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers." Countless guides. Few fathers. He could have written it about our moment without changing a word.

Here's the part we rarely name: much of what looks like ambition in Christian leadership is actually fatherlessness. When no one older ever looked at you and said, "You are my beloved β€” you have nothing to prove," you'll spend your life trying to earn that verdict from an audience. And applause is a counterfeit of blessing. It feels like the real thing for a moment, then leaves you hungrier. An orphan with a microphone is still an orphan.

The platform won't heal it. A father will. What the church needs isn't a better crop of stars β€” it's the restoration of spiritual family. Fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, leaders who are known and not just followed. A movement built that way outlasts anyone, because its life is carried in relationships, not stored in one exhausted personality.

This isn't just for pastors.

It's for the one who's been hosting a Bible study in the living room and wondering if that counts. (It does.)

It's for the leader who's tired of running programs and hungry to actually make disciples.

It's for the one who keeps sensing God is doing something new β€” that the church is becoming a family again β€” and wants to build it His way, not just their own.

If you're ready to lead biblically, disciple people, and set the table in your own home, this room is for you.

Starting this Tuesday, Sept 29, at 10 AM Eastern: a free Weekly Leader Call.

Every week we'll dig into:
πŸ”₯ What it means to lead the way Jesus led
πŸ“– Teaching and exhortation that lands
🏑 Hosting and hospitality, making room for people
🍷 Stepping into the new wineskin of family, in a healthy way

A tent, not a stage. Most of the hour is you talking, not me.

Save your seat πŸ‘‰ Comment LEADER and I'll send you the link.

You know the feeling of circling the parking lot of faith. Wanting to walk back in, but not sure there's anything left inside worth coming back for. You still love Jesus β€” you just can't walk into another performance.

Here's the lie the tired heart tells itself: that God is finished with you, or at least disappointed β€” standing at a distance with folded arms, waiting for you to clean yourself up before you're welcome again.

It's exactly backwards.

The Good Shepherd doesn't wait for the lost sheep to find its own way home. Jesus said He goes after it "until he finds it," and when He finds it, He lays it on His shoulders β€” rejoicing β€” and carries it home. Not scolding. Rejoicing. In the same breath He told of a father who saw his ruined son "while he was still a long way off" and ran to him.

That's the God you're dealing with. Not one who dares you to earn your way back. One who runs. You will never talk Him out of loving you. Your productivity didn't earn it, and your emptiness cannot end it. He isn't disappointed that you're tired β€” He's calling you home to rest.

You set the table for the people who already belong β€” the ones who fit your life, your schedule, your comfort. Most of us do.

But there's a detail in the Christian table that changes everything: it always sets one more place than it needs. The table of God is defined by the empty chair β€” room kept, on purpose, for the one not yet here. The stranger. The prodigal. The lonely coworker. The person no one else made space for.

That's why hospitality was never about impressing people with a cleaner version of your life. The word the New Testament uses is philoxenia β€” love of the stranger. It means your evening is interruptible. It means you keep a seat for someone who can't pay you back.

This is how the early church out-loved an empire β€” home by home, meal by meal, a table so mixed that Rome had never seen anything like it and couldn't stop it. Family isn't a strategy for the mission. It is the mission, hiding in your dining room.

You don't need a budget or a building. Just the table you already own, and the willingness to open it.

Full teaching here: https://markcasto.co/the-table-is-not-sentimental-it-is-strategic/

Save this for the next time you set the table β€” and send it to someone who needs to know a seat is being kept for them.
