How fun is that?

IMPORTANT INFORMATION for the Costume Contest.

- The judging will take place between 7:50am and 8:00am
- You need to check in at the Costume Contest check-in table between 7:30 and 7:50am
- Winners will be announced around 8:05am
- Remember we have categories for pets and babies (under 3) as well
- We will take photos of the winner in each category
- We will take a group photo of all contestants too

Amazing. Simply amazing!

The Vampire Run was started by my wife Shelley Cox Scoggins and me Scotty Scoggins 7 years ago in memory of my mom and dad who both passed away from cancer. My mom from Acute Myeloid Leukemia (aka AML). It was started as a stop gap for fundraising in 2020 when the pandemic shut down all races. The original art was done by our daughter Chelsea Metherell and our son Brandon Scoggins helped with logistics and set up. We started with about 75 runners. Here we are 7 years later and now we have a thriving run that hopefully brings joy to our runners, vendors, sponsors, and volunteers, but also raises funds and awareness for those dealing with cancer. Our proceeds go to Blood Cancer United.

We have so many people who graciously give their time to put on the best possible event. This year I'd like to give a special thank you to Megan Sheridan Dziegelewski who has taken on managing volunteers and to Kelly DeWitt-Foster who is organizing vendors. Both of these are big tasks and it's so awesome that they are willing to do the work!

It's not easy and we're not perfect, but we work really hard to keep moving forward even though sometimes it's scary. We can't thank you enough for participating and supporting us. It means so much to us!

Many charity runs have large organizations behind them. We don't and that's fantastic, but it means we need people. People helping people is what the world should be about.

If you have participated in our event in previous years or are new, Covington is known for it's beauty and charm, but it's also known as Hollywood of the South! Over 200 movies and tv shows have been filmed here. Our course runs through many of the filming locations.

It's fun to learn how these shows and movies that we all know and love come to be. So that's what our panels are about. Stick around and join us after the run stick around for these two panels.

Every year at the Vampire Run, we run with purpose. We run for the fighters, the survivors, and the heroes who leave an undeniable mark on our hearts.

September is Childhood cancer awareness month.

Last year, our community ran for Henry. At just 6 years old, Henry showed us what true bravery looked like before losing his battle with AML. His courage continues to light our path, and we carry his memory into every single mile we take this year. In Henry’s honor, the fight goes on. We’ve created a badge for Henry that will be on our finisher shirts (See image).

Today, we are honored to introduce the heart and inspiration behind this year’s Vampire Run: meet Ricardo. 🩸✨Ricardo also lives in Covington!

If you ask anyone who knows Ricardo, they’ll tell you he is the definition of a chill, kind-hearted kid. He has been thriving in the Gifted program ever since kindergarten, devours books, loves playing on his Nintendo Switch, shoots hoops, builds incredible Lego creations, and loves traveling with his family. He’s also a twin—and while he and his sister Isabela have their typical sibling moments, their bond is unbreakable. When they’re apart, they miss each other instantly.

On May 5th, life changed in an instant when Ricardo was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

Adjusting to treatment and hospital visits has tested the family in ways words can hardly capture. As his mom Maria shared: "Cancer sucks, and it affects all of us. But we are lucky enough to have an incredible support system." By bravely sharing Ricardo’s journey, Maria hopes to make sure no other family walking through a childhood cancer diagnosis ever feels alone.

This year and every year, let’s remember Henry’s legacy, and now step up to the starting line for Ricardo’s fight.
