One wedding tradition we are seeing couples rethink lately… where parents sit during the ceremony.
Traditionally, the bride’s family sits on the left and the groom’s family sits on the right. But more couples are choosing to have parents sit on the opposite side so they can actually see their child’s face during the ceremony instead of the back of their head.
And honestly… there are pros and cons to both!
Traditional seating pros:
âś” Keeps with classic wedding traditions
âś” Helps guests know where to sit
âś” Looks balanced and familiar in photos
Traditional seating cons:
âś” Parents mostly see the back of their child during the ceremony
Opposite side seating pros:
✔ Parents get to watch their child’s expressions and emotions
âś” Can create really emotional and meaningful moments
âś” Parents often feel more connected during the ceremony
Opposite side seating cons:
âś” Can confuse guests if not communicated clearly
âś” Some couples prefer the traditional visual setup
At the end of the day, there is no “right” answer. Your ceremony should feel meaningful to YOU and your families
Bouquet toss and garter toss… are they still necessary?
These traditions used to be a staple at almost every wedding, but couples today are realizing it’s completely okay to skip anything that doesn’t fit their personalities, comfort level, or vision for the day.
The pros:
âś” Fun, high-energy reception moment
âś” Guests often enjoy participating
âś” Can create funny and memorable photos
âś” Keeps traditional wedding moments alive
The cons:
âś” Some guests feel uncomfortable being singled out
âś” Not everyone enjoys being pulled onto the dance floor
âś” The garter toss especially can feel awkward for some couples
âś” It takes time away from dancing and other reception moments
And the truth is… your wedding should feel like YOU.
Some couples still love these traditions, some modify them, and others replace them completely with things like:
âś” Anniversary dances
âś” Shot tosses or t-shirt tosses
âś” Stuffed animal tosses
âś” Giving the bouquet to parents/grandparents
âś” Private last dances instead
There is no “right” answer. If it sounds fun and meaningful to you, do it. If it feels stressful, awkward, or unnecessary, skip it without guilt
Choosing the right DJ is about WAY more than just music 🎶
One of the biggest questions couples should ask themselves is:
Do you just need someone to play music… or do you need a DJ who also acts as an MC?
A DJ focuses mainly on:
âś” Playing music
âś” Managing playlists and transitions
âś” Keeping the dance floor going
An MC-style DJ often also helps with:
âś” Making announcements
âś” Guiding guests through the timeline
âś” Introducing the bridal party
âś” Keeping reception events moving smoothly
âś” Helping direct guest attention throughout the night
Neither option is wrong, it just depends on the vibe you want for your wedding.
Some couples want a quieter DJ presence with minimal talking, while others want someone energetic who helps control the flow and keeps guests engaged all night.
Our biggest advice:
Before booking, ask to hear how they normally interact during receptions. Every DJ has a different style and personality, and making sure that matches your vision is SO important.
A great DJ can completely change the energy of a wedding reception 🤍
Wedding rehearsals are SO much more important than people realize 🤍
A rehearsal is not just “walking down the aisle.” It helps everyone understand timing, positioning, entrances, exits, cues, and expectations before wedding day actually arrives.
And honestly… it can prevent a LOT of confusion and stress the next day.
If someone is participating in the ceremony, they really should attend the rehearsal whenever possible:
âś” Bridal party
âś” Parents & grandparents involved in the ceremony
âś” Flower girls & ring bearers
âś” Readers or speakers
âś” Anyone walking down the aisle
âś” Anyone helping direct guests or lineups
The more everyone understands the plan ahead of time, the smoother and more relaxed wedding day feels for EVERYONE.
It also gives your coordinator time to answer questions, adjust logistics, solve possible issues ahead of time, and make sure everyone feels comfortable before the big day.
A good rehearsal creates confidence, and confidence creates a smoother wedding day
