🎬 Is this a win for indie films?

AMC’s new Leawood Films venture could give fully financed independent movies greater access to theaters. I’m cautiously optimistic but the revenue split, marketing support and deal terms will tell the real story.

No films have been selected, and releases aren’t expected until 2027 or 2028.

What’s your take?

Prime Video may pay indie filmmakers as little as one cent per hour watched—but the platform can still provide valuable global reach.

The key is to use it strategically: encourage your audience to rent or purchase, watch the entire film, leave an honest rating and review, and visit your film’s IMDb page.

Prime Video can be part of your distribution strategy—just don’t make it your entire strategy.

Independent filmmaking has always been a fight for visibility—and today, that fight is even tougher.

Platforms like Tubi have opened doors for independent filmmakers, but we’re competing against studio-licensed content and an ever-growing number of indie films entering the marketplace.

So we have to pick our poison.

We may not have massive marketing budgets or publicity teams, but we do have our creativity, our stories, and the ability to build our own audience.

Distribution gives your film a place to live. Marketing helps people find it.

The marketplace may be crowded, but there’s still room for our stories.

Keep creating. Keep promoting. Keep finding your audience.
