663 Taken on strength in 1957. Mar 12, 1957: Carried by a B-36 to Wright-Patterson AFB, OH and assigned there for static testing. Aug 12, 1957: Made its first flight, Sep 1957: Transferred to the 6592nd Test Squadron at Carswell AFB, TX. Sep 20, 1957: Made the first B-58 supersonic pod drop Dec 30, 1957: Made the first B-58 mach 2 pod drop. 1958: Converted to the first RB-58A and tested the reconnaissance pod. 1962: Loaned to NASA for sonic boom testing in anticipation of the American SST project. Ca.1963: Converted to TB-58A and transferred to the 305th Bomb Wing (Medium) at Bunker Hill (later Grissom) AFB, IN. Jan 1969: Suffered substantial damage due to a cockpit fire. Since the B-58 fleet was due to be retired, this aircraft was repaired only for display as a ate guard. 1987: Moved to the new Grissom AFB museum collection.
