BREAKING: A man is dead following the service of a search warrant in Crestview.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed there was a large law enforcement presence in the area of Alabama Street and Sixth Avenue earlier this morning and asked residents and motorists to avoid the area. The sheriff’s office said there is no current threat to the public. The intersection is still blocked with crime scene tape.
According to published reports, SWAT officers were serving a search warrant around 5:20 a.m. Saturday when a man armed himself and opened fire on deputies. Sheriff Eric Aden reportedly said deputies did not return fire and the man was not killed by gunfire, but died as a result of law enforcement “tactics.” Details about the tactics that were deployed are not currently available.
Multiple bullets reportedly struck law enforcement vehicles and nearby Lance C. Richbourg School. No injuries to deputies or others were reported.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
The sheriff’s office has not yet released the identity of the man or a formal press release. We will update this story as additional information becomes available.
