September is National Preparedness Month! Take a moment today to make sure the essentials in your home are powered, checked, and ready when you need them.
This is the most important thing we do that the public almost never sees!
Once a week, every apparatus in our fleet gets a complete āweeklyā inspection. Weāre not just checking boxesāweāre opening compartments, verifying inventory, running tools, testing equipment, and making sure every piece is ready to perform when it matters most.
In this weekās video, weāre taking you behind the scenes of the Truckās weekly inspection, including a view most people never get to seeāfrom the top of the 100-foot ladder as we exercise and test it.
A lot happens before the emergency ever comes in. This is a glimpse into the work that keeps us ready for the next call.
The fire service is constantly evolving, and so is the equipment we rely on.
Recently, we placed new battery-powered rescue saws into service on all of our frontline apparatus. Advances in battery technology have made these tools a game changer. Instead of reaching for a gas-powered saw, priming it, setting the choke, and pulling the starter rope multiple times before getting to work, firefighters can now grab the saw, push a button, and go.
When seconds matter, simplicity matters.
These saws also eliminate concerns about an engine stalling during operations in challenging conditions, allowing crews to stay focused on the task at hand. Whether itās training or responding to an emergency, having reliable tools ready at a momentās notice helps us better serve our community.
Weāre grateful for the investment in our department and excited to continue training with this equipment so weāre prepared when the call comes.
Train hard. Stay ready.

Continuous training means better service for our community. This week, our firefighters partnered with Nicor to sharpen their skills and stay prepared for any gas-related emergency.
Thanks to Nicor for the hands-on training and for giving our firefighters the knowledge they need to respond safely and effectively!
