🎃🐾 SPOOKY STORY SATURDAY — CHAPTER TWO 🐾🎃

🌙 THE DOG THAT WASN'T THERE 🌙

Last Saturday, you voted for our rescue pups to FOLLOW the mysterious dog wearing the orange collar into the woods.

Well... you got your wish. But our pups might be wishing you'd chosen differently. 👀

🌲 CHAPTER TWO: WHISPERS IN THE WOODS 🌲

The old photograph lay abandoned by the fence.

The mysterious dog stood at the edge of the woods, waiting.

Mack was the first to step forward.

Being the biggest of the group, he figured someone needed to take charge. Besides, he wasn't about to let his friends wander into a haunted forest alone.

Suki, however, had absolutely no concerns.

"A mysterious dog? A creepy forest? A midnight adventure?! BEST. NIGHT. EVER!"

Before anyone could stop her, she bounded toward the trees.

Dakota sighed.

"Well, there goes our peaceful evening."

Darcy stayed close to Mack, occasionally glancing over his shoulder.

Brandy cautiously examined every shadow, while Rajah kept his distance, quietly observing the strange visitor.

And Gypsy, ever patient and thoughtful, noticed something nobody else had.

"The dog isn't making any footprints."

Everyone stopped.

They looked down at the muddy trail.

Seven sets of paw prints.

But none belonging to the dog they were following.

😳

"Okay," Dakota muttered. "That's concerning."

The orange-collared dog turned toward them.

His silver tag jingled.

JINGLE... JINGLE...

Then he disappeared between two enormous oak trees.

Suki charged ahead.

"SUKI, WAIT!" Mack barked.

But it was too late.

The moment Suki crossed between the trees...

EVERYTHING WENT SILENT.

No crickets.

No wind.

Not even the sound of their own paws against the leaves.

Then...

CREAAAAAK.

An old wooden sign swung from a nearby branch.

Brandy stepped closer and brushed away the moss.

Carved into the wood were five words:

"SEVEN ENTER. SIX RETURN HOME."

Darcy immediately pressed against Mack.

"Excuse me?!"

Rajah backed away from the sign.

Gypsy counted the group.

One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six...

SEVEN.

Suddenly, a faint orange glow appeared deeper in the forest.

Through the trees, they could see an abandoned little cabin.

Its windows were boarded shut.

Its front door was hanging open.

And sitting on the porch...

was the mysterious dog.

But this time, he wasn't alone.

A shadow moved behind him.

Something was watching them from inside the cabin.

Then a voice whispered through the trees:

"You weren't supposed to bring all seven."

The cabin door SLAMMED shut.

And the orange-collared dog vanished.

Our rescue pups have reached their first REAL mystery, and they're counting on YOU!

🐾 PUP DATE: FORMERLY LOTTIE! 🐾

Looks like someone has officially decided that the good life suits her! 😂❤️

Our girl, formerly known as Lottie, is officially settled into her new home and absolutely loving her new life — especially her bed! 🛏️🐶 It looks like she's figured out pretty quickly that comfy beds, being spoiled, and having a family of her own are pretty great.

There’s something so special about seeing a rescue dog finally settle in and realize, “This is my home. I belong here.” 🥹❤️

Happy tails, sweet girl! Seeing our former Lottie safe, loved, comfortable, and living her best life is exactly what rescue is all about. 🐾🏡❤️

🐾 ADOPTED: FRODO 🐾

We have an adoption announcement today that hits a little closer to home. 🥹❤️

For months, Frodo has been cared for by one of our own team members, Madison. She has been there as this shy, gentle boy slowly learned to trust, gained confidence, and showed more and more of the sweet, playful dog hiding underneath all that uncertainty.

She was supposed to be helping Frodo get ready for his forever family.

Turns out… she was his forever family. ❤️

After months together, the bond between Frodo and Madison simply became too strong to ignore. Somewhere between all the patience, quiet moments, little victories, and love, Frodo stopped being a foster waiting for his home.

He was already home.

So today, we get to officially announce that FRODO HAS BEEN ADOPTED — by our very own Madison! 🎉🐾

Sometimes rescue is about loving them enough to prepare them for someone else.

And sometimes, one quietly works his way into your heart until you realize you can't imagine being the one to let him go.

Congratulations, Frodo. ❤️ You found your person right here with us. And we have a feeling this is exactly where you were meant to be. 🏡🐾

🕯️ WEDNESDAY — The Door in the Basement

🚪👀 THERE'S A DOOR IN THE BASEMENT…

Nobody remembers seeing it before.

Naturally, someone has to open it.

🤡 Dave: Opens it and immediately runs away so you'll chase him.

🧚 Ruthie: "I'll just wait right here, thanks."

🔮 Gypsy: Has been staring at that door for 20 minutes and knows something the rest of us don't.

⚔️ Holly: Already opened it. We weren't finished discussing this, Holly.

🧛 Rajah: Absolutely not… unless Rajah's favorite person is going in. Then we're going together.

🧟 Patches: Walked through the door while everyone else was arguing.

🐾 WHY DOES MY DOG KEEP DIGGING?!

First: digging is normal dog behavior. Your dog probably isn’t plotting the destruction of your yard. 😂

Dogs dig for all kinds of reasons—because it feels good, they’re bored, they smell critters underground, they’re trying to cool off, bury something, escape, or simply because digging is hard-wired into them.

So instead of only asking, “How do I make it STOP?” ask, “What need is this meeting?”

If your dog is a professional excavator, try giving them a legal place to do it.

🪏 Create a designated DIG ZONE:
• A child’s sandbox
• A plastic kiddie pool filled with clean sand or loose dirt
• A small section of the yard with a loose dirt pile

Make that spot more rewarding than your flower bed! Bury toys, treats, balls, or safe chews just under the surface and encourage them to FIND IT. Praise and reward digging there. If they start digging somewhere else, calmly redirect them back to their spot.

Also look at the WHY.

A bored dog may need more walks, sniffing, training, play, and mental enrichment. A dog digging beside the fence may be trying to escape. A dog digging a shallow hole and lying in it may be trying to cool down and needs shade, fresh water, or to come inside.

And punishment after you discover the hole? Your dog won’t understand why you’re angry.

Fix the reason, manage the environment, and give the behavior an appropriate outlet.

Sometimes the goal isn’t “never dig.”

Sometimes it’s simply:

“You can dig—just NOT THERE.” 😂🐾

👻 TUESDAY — Choose Your Haunted House Sidekick

🏚️ YOU'VE BEEN LOCKED IN THE HAUNTED HOUSE. 😱

Good news: You don't have to survive the night alone.

Bad news: You can only choose ONE resident to stay by your side. 👀

🤡 Dave — Morale will be high. Survival odds are questionable because Dave wants to play chase with the monster.

🧚 Ruthie — Quiet, sweet company who will happily stay close without adding to the chaos.

🔮 Gypsy — Smart and observant. Probably noticed the danger before anyone else.

⚔️ Holly — Forget hiding. Holly is ready to confront whatever is upstairs.

🧛 Rajah — Once you're Rajah's person, you've got one seriously loyal teammate.

🧟 Patches — Doesn't know why everyone is screaming. Patches is having a GREAT time. 😂
