WCU Alumni Association
The official page for WCU Alumni to stay connected with their friends and fellow Catamounts. Once a Catamount always a Catamount.
A community that's built from and defined by the people who call Western Carolina home, first as students and then as alumni. Formed in 1893, our Alumni Association fosters a lifelong connection to WCU through programs and services so that no matter where you are, you'll always have a home in Cullowhee.

What can thousands of letters written nearly 200 years ago tell us about the world? Quite a lot.
The Carlyle Letters Online is a free digital archive of letters written by 19th-century Scottish writers Thomas and Jane Welsh Carlyle. The collection offers a firsthand look at the people, ideas and everyday life of the Victorian era, including correspondence with figures such as Charles Dickens, George Eliot and Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Now, this scholarly resource used by researchers around the world has a home at WCU’s Hunter Library.
WCU Professor of English Studies Brent Kinser has spent more than 25 years helping build and preserve The Carlyle Letters Online. He has made $30,000 in gifts and pledges to establish an endowment that will help maintain and develop the archive while giving WCU students hands-on experience through research fellowships and internships.
For Kinser, it’s a full-circle moment: a project that has shaped his career is now part of WCU’s academic legacy and creating opportunities for the next generation of Catamounts.

Faviola’s story serves as a powerful reminder that no one succeeds alone.
In this episode of Western Wednesdays, Faviola shares the winding path that brought her to Western Carolina University, from being a first-generation college student who initially struggled, left the university then returned to Professors and mentors who saw her potential and pointed her to a life of public service.
Today, as the Executive Director of the Community Care Clinic of Highlands-Cashiers, Faviola has transformed her life of public service. Under her leadership, the clinic has doubled its patient count and tripled its medication provision, all while maintaining a steadfast mission to provide compassionate care to the underserved. Her journey highlights the profound impact of mentors and the power of resilience.

One of our favorite days of the year, LEGACY PINNING CEREMONY 💜
During Family Weekend, Ramsey Regional Activity Center was packed with generations of Catamounts as WCU alumni returned to campus to pin their current students, celebrating the family connections that make Western so special.
From parents and grandparents to siblings and other family members, it’s always pretty special to see Catamounts across generations come together in one place. HOME!
We’re still smiling over this year’s Legacy Pinning!
