We recently completed a structural inspection for a residential remodel in Dallas, GA. The homeowner wants to enlarge an opening in a load-bearing rear exterior wall that supports both the main roof and addition roof framing.
Key findings & recommended solution:

A new beam was required to carry the roof loads.
Structural posts will support the beam (offset ~2 ft from the lower wall due to building geometry).
Cantilever floor beams using an LVL BEAM with proper support.
Beam connections need hangers and metal straps for uplift.
Garage wall studs below must be doubled for adequate support.
