Okay, the girl with the injured back leg is finally with us.

And on the way, we picked up the second female too. It turns out she is tiny — under 20 pounds!

So… okay. Let’s try.

We need to raise funds for the injured girl’s leg, medical care, and boarding. But I am still really hoping we can find fosters for these girls so they don’t have to stay in boarding.

Please look at them. They are both small and incredibly sweet. A little scared right now, which is completely understandable, but very friendly.

And if we are able to raise enough money, I will go back for the two boys who are still out there too.

Unfortunately, everything depends on finances. We are doing everything we can, but we simply cannot do everything.

I posted them two or three times before. Four homeless dogs who have been living on the streets of Fort Worth for a long time.

Unfortunately, no one ever offered to foster them. And there was always someone who needed us more urgently. These four were being fed, they looked okay, they were surviving… so every time, someone else became the priority.

Today I found out that one of the girls was hit by a car.

She is okay, thank God, but it looks like her back leg is injured and she needs help.

I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. We have had way too many orthopedic cases lately. Derek is still in the hospital, and we still don’t know what is going to happen with him. We never raised enough money for his surgery, and we don’t even know how much more his treatment will cost us.

Camila is scheduled for surgery for her torn ligament on October 15. That surgery alone is $2,500.

And now this girl.

Where do I put another dog? There is no foster. There is no space. There is no money. There are no resources left — financial, physical, emotional… none.

But what am I supposed to do?

I’ve known about this girl for so long now that she doesn’t feel like a stranger to me anymore. I’ve been trying to find help for her for months.

And now she’s been hit by a car.

How do I just leave her there?

I truly don’t know what to do.

Many of you have been asking about Ryker’s mom — so here she is!

Riana. She is approximately 4–5 years old, active and sweet girl. She is still a little skinny and needs to gain some weight, but she already looks like a completely different dog from when we first met her.

Riana is not a big girl at all. She is a beautiful, sweet dog who loves people and would make a loyal, fun, active companion.

Riana can be dog-selective, so we are looking for a foster home where she can be the only dog.

Who would like to give this beautiful mama a chance and have a devoted, happy friend by their side?

HOUSTON AREA — SENIOR GIRL NEEDS A HOME!

Please look at this precious little girl sitting in La Porte shelter. She’s a senior, she has some skin issues related to allergies, and she needs dental work but look at her. She is the sweetest, kindest little soul and such a tiny girl.

Who has room for this baby? Who can give her the soft bed, love, and safe home she deserves?

She shouldn’t be spending her senior years in a shelter. She needs someone who can look past a few medical needs and see the wonderful little dog underneath.

This is Amber. Amber and her two friends were found sitting by the side of the road. They were watching every passing car and trying to jump into any car that stopped, as if they were desperately hoping someone would take them with them.

Right now, two of her friends are staying in paid boarding, while Amber was lucky enough to find a wonderful foster family. She is an amazing girl: calm, well-balanced, and so incredibly happy to finally be inside a home and close to people.

Her two friends are still waiting for the same chance. If you would like to help and are able to foster one of them, we would be incredibly grateful. Every dog we can move out of paid boarding not only saves us much-needed funds, but also opens a spot for another dog who desperately needs to be rescued.

Remember Rose and Lilly?
Do you remember the mom and her puppy we rescued in terrible condition, suffering from severe demodectic mange and with almost no hair?

This is what they looked like then — and look at them now.

Lilly, the puppy, is now ready for adoption. She is such a sweet, wonderful little girl and is ready to find her forever family.

Rose, her mom, is not quite ready for adoption yet. She is still in boarding, but we would absolutely love to find a foster home for her. Rose is wonderful — quiet, calm, gentle, and friendly with everyone. She just needs someone willing to give her a chance and help her make that transition from boarding into a home.

Please remember: every boarding spot we can free up gives another dog a chance. It could mean saving a dog who is scheduled to be euthanized in a shelter today or tomorrow, or helping a suffering dog who is trying to survive on the streets.

Update on Riker.

Yesterday, Riker had new X-rays taken, and for now we received some unexpectedly hopeful news. His body appears to be doing an incredible job healing this severe fracture on its own. The new X-rays show significant new bone growth and callus formation around the fracture site.

At this point, his veterinarian does not recommend surgery, because so much healing has already taken place that operating now could potentially disrupt the blood supply and the new bone formation that is already underway. They estimate that Riker is approximately four weeks into an eight-week healing process.

However, I’m still not ready to say that we are completely out of the woods.

We were told that his injured leg will likely remain shorter than the other one, that he may have an abnormal gait, and that arthritis could develop later. Amputation was also mentioned as a possible future option if he develops significant pain or stops using the leg.

And this is exactly why I want another opinion — actually, more than one. I plan to send Riker’s X-rays to other orthopedic veterinarians and clinics and ask them to review his case as well.

Of course I am incredibly relieved that his fracture is healing. But our goal isn’t simply to avoid surgery today. Riker is still a very young dog, and if there is a safe and reasonable way to give him the best possible long-term function of this leg, I want to know about it. We want him to be able to walk and run comfortably and live a full, active life without chronic pain — and, if at all possible, for amputation never to become a question we have to face.

So for now, we are cautiously hopeful. We will continue monitoring his healing while getting additional orthopedic opinions before deciding what, if anything, should be done next.

I really hope that in a few more weeks I’ll be able to tell you that Riker’s body truly performed a little miracle.
