Please welcome Tucker Turkey Leg to the page. This happy and chunky boy is a Boston Terrier born with a cleft lip. He is now 3.5 weeks old and is ready to start the weaning process! He’s up to 2 pounds and 6 ounces so I’d say he’s ready! 🍔

A happy Sunday from Gunter. He will be 8 weeks old this week and is thriving! He is a purebred Golden Retriever who has a cleft palate and has conquered eating and drinking independently. Very true to the Golden Retriever breed: calm, playful, friendly, loves all his foster siblings, smart and a very sweet boy!

MUGSY MAPLEBOTTOM NEEDS OUR HELP 💔

This quiet, gentle boy has been dealt another heartbreaking blow, and the look of concern in Mugsy Maplebottom’s eyes absolutely cuts right through me. 😔

But first, there IS some wonderful news. ❤️

After being evaluated by two different veterinarians, both agree that Mugsy’s cleft palate looks great and does not require surgical intervention. 🙏 That is HUGE news because, with everything else this poor boy is facing, his cleft palate is thankfully NOT the problem.

Unfortunately, we discovered what IS the problem…

🦷 His teeth were in terrible condition.
🦠 And Mugsy is HEARTWORM POSITIVE. 😔

How does a 4-year-old innocent soul go into a veterinary office for what was supposed to be a routine “dental and neuter” and come out needing 11 teeth extracted?

The level of neglect this boy has endured is heartbreaking.

He spent his days trying to survive the brutal Texas heat, only to eventually be dumped at a veterinary clinic to be euthanized because his family was “moving.” And the part that makes my heart hurt even more? They took their other dog with them.

They left Mugsy behind. 💔

But Mugsy doesn’t hold a grudge.

He just wants to be loved.

He has now had his vaccines, f***l test, heartworm test, dental cleaning, 11 extractions, and neuter, all while being the happiest little soul because someone is finally feeding him, loving on him, and letting him sleep on a soft p**f bed in cool air conditioning. 🥹❤️

He follows me everywhere.

He doesn’t ask for much.

He just wants to be close.

And after everything he has been through, that quiet little boy deserves nothing less than the very best from here forward. 🐾❤️

We have now started his 30 days of doxycycline in preparation for heartworm treatment.

Yesterday’s veterinary bill was $577.14. 😳 And yes, I know… somehow that is an incredibly good price for a dental with ELEVEN extractions, cleaning, and a neuter! But please remember, we are a very small 501(c)(3) rescue, and every single penny is carefully accounted for and stretched as far as possible.

And Mugsy isn’t finished yet.

Once he completes his 30 days of doxycycline, he will need his heartworm injection, currently quoted at approximately $360. 💔

That is a lot for our little rescue, but we simply cannot turn our backs on this sweet boy.
