Corvo Security
You know you need it, but where to start? That's where Corvo Security comes in. But with Corvo by your side, you're guaranteed expert advice and solutions
With cybersecurity constantly evolving, it can be overwhelming and difficult to know where to begin.
"Changing out a product is hard."
Aaron Crow, PrOTect IT All EP121
If you are evaluating a replacement, price the change, not the license. Honest math looks like this: migration and cutover, retraining everyone who touches the tool, rewriting documentation and runbooks, re-tuning detections and SOC workflow, and the months your team runs slower on something unfamiliar.
Then ask what the new product has to be worth to clear that number. Sometimes it clears easily. Often the honest answer is that the incumbent stays and the budget belongs on a gap nothing covers yet.

"I love going after overlooked, boring spaces because there's typically less competitors in those spaces."
Ken Elefant, PrOTect IT All EP121
Worth reading twice if you are the one buying. The loudest category on the show floor is usually the most crowded, and crowded rarely means solved. The unglamorous work, governance and risk and compliance among it, is where the gap between the pitch and the day job tends to be smallest.

"AI is like an overzealous intern. They really want to get things done for you. They want to do it fast and they want to come back and tell you that it's done."
Ken Elefant, PrOTect IT All EP121
The intern grew up. It is a master student now, with access to an enormous amount of data and tools inside your enterprise. Enthusiasm plus access is the entire risk model, and the fix is unglamorous: break the work into steps, scope the permissions tightly, keep a human on the checkpoints.

Corvo Security produces PrOTect IT All, hosted by our founder Aaron Crow. In the latest episode, Aaron sits down with Ken Elefant, partner at Sorenson Capital and co-founder of the firm's venture practice.
If you buy security tools, this is a look at the machine that funds them. Ken's team sees about 5,000 companies a year and backs eight to twelve, and the filter is not the demo. It is whether the founders understand that enterprises run on people and process. That is the same reason a working firewall survives a better competitor. The license was never the expensive part.

PrOTect IT All is produced by Corvo Security and hosted by our founder Aaron Crow. Five things worth carrying out of the latest episode with Matt McLendon of Portainer and Josh Herr of Xiid:
1. There is a button on the rig that costs a million dollars if anyone pushes it, and nobody is manning the room. Security that ignores physical reality is theater.
2. Nobody in operations cares about your firewall. They care about uptime, faster troubleshooting, and making money. Sell that, and the security comes along for the ride.
3. The thirty year old control system with two known vulnerabilities and no internet connection may genuinely be more secure than its Windows 11 replacement. De-risk around legacy instead of ripping it out.
4. Containers let you ship capability without shipping hardware. Matt deployed a monitoring system to an offshore rig without setting foot on it, with an offshore electrician doing the cable runs and reading screens back over the phone.
5. Josh's most optimistic call is the shift from Windows to Linux. Matt's warning rides with it: if you keep wrapping open source into industrial products, fund the maintainership or you inherit the risk.

Thirty seven devices. On an OT network that was supposed to be isolated. All phoning home to Microsoft.
That finding came out of a terabyte of flow data on a recent site assessment. Not an exotic attack, just default behavior nobody turned off on a network everyone assumed was air gapped. Cutting it off is the easy half. The harder half is the Linux skills gap sitting behind the alternative.

"The infrastructure should be what you're relying on, not what you're managing."
That is Matt McLendon, Product Steward, Edge & Field Application Engineer at Portainer, in the latest episode. It is a good test to run against your own environment: is the platform something the operations team relies on, or something they maintain?

"There's a button on offshore oil rigs that someone can just walk up to, and no one's manning the room, that at minimum is costing that operation a million dollars if you push it. So what is a USB blocker doing for anyone?"
That is Matt McLendon of Portainer, sixteen years offshore before he moved to the vendor side. His point is one we see constantly: when the control is imported from conventional IT without the contextual conversation, what you have bought is visible compliance, and the OT team disengages because they are the ones installing it.

Two practitioners, two companies, one throughline we see in the field constantly: security imported straight from corporate IT optimizes for the wrong risks on the plant floor. The conversation covers de-risking around legacy iron instead of ripping it out, deploying containers to an offshore rig nobody flew to, and thirty seven devices phoning home to Microsoft on a network everyone assumed was isolated.
A practitioner conversation, no FUD.

Three federal advisories in five months, and the equation never changed: an exposed device, weak or no authentication, and reachability from the internet.
On the PrOTect IT All blog, our founder Aaron Crow breaks down the new Siemens S7 advisory without the hype. The attackers used AI-assisted scripting, and that is the headline everywhere. The reality: AI made an old weakness cheaper to exploit at scale. It did not open a single new port. S7comm on TCP 102 has carried weak or no authentication for decades.
The post covers what the advisory actually says, what pre-positioning means for asset owners, and ten concrete steps, starting with the two to do this week: inventory your S7 devices and prove not one of them answers from the internet.
Corvo Security produces PrOTect IT All because defending critical infrastructure starts with honest fundamentals. Read the full breakdown, link in the first comment.
