Workplace Violence Prevention Starts with a Plan
Workplace violence can happen in any business, and being prepared before an incident occurs can make all the difference.
A comprehensive Workplace Violence Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) gives employees and management clear guidance for recognizing warning signs, reporting concerns, responding to threats, managing emergencies, and protecting employees and customers.
At Sapphire Risk Advisory Group, we help businesses develop practical, customized workplace violence prevention SOPs based on their specific operations, risks, and security environment.
Donāt wait for an incident to determine how your team should respond. Be proactive. Have a plan. Train your people.

Virginia Cannabis Licensing: Why Do You Need a Floor Plan Design for Your Application?
While Virginiaās proposed regulations remain subject to change, applicants may not need a specific location under contract before submitting their license application. But that does not make the facility plan any less important.
Virginiaās proposed regulations are heavily focused on security. A detailed sample floor plan that shows your vision for the facility and clearly identifies the proposed security equipment and safeguards could strengthen your application and help demonstrate operational readiness.
At Sapphire Risk Advisory Group, we have helped design more than 1,000 cannabis facility floor plans nationwide. Our sample designs include a compliant operational cannabis business floor plan with a detailed security equipment overlay.
Why put Sapphire Risk in your corner?
-More than 13 years of cannabis-industry experience
-One of the nationās longest-standing cannabis consulting firms
- Experience supporting more than 800 cannabis license applications nationwide
- Active involvement in Virginiaās previous cannabis licensing round
In a highly competitive licensing process, every section of the application matters. We have spent more than a decade helping cannabis applicants turn their vision into a clear, compliant, and competitive application.
Donāt wait until the application window opens to begin preparing. By then, it will be too lateā¦.

Letās win this together.
P.S. Yes, the floor plan example is intentionally blurry, but the results we deliver for our clients are crystal clear.

Holiday Security Starts Before the Holiday Rush
As we get ready for the holiday season, our August and September pawn and jewelry onsite risk assessments are coming to an end.
As has been our standard for the past 13 years, August and September keep the Sapphire Risk Advisory Group team busy working with proactive retailers who understand that the best time to identify a security weakness is before someone else does.
An onsite security risk assessment provides an independent review of your current security program and practical recommendations to better protect your employees, customers, inventory, cash, and business during the busiest, and often most challenging time of the year.
We donāt sell security equipment, so our recommendations are based on risk, need, and operational reality and not on selling you more cameras, alarms, or hardware.
During an onsite assessment, Sapphire can review physical security, video surveillance, alarm and panic systems, access control, safes and vaults, opening and closing procedures, robbery response, cash and high-value inventory controls, employee practices, and other vulnerabilities that may not be obvious during day-to-day operations.
Security programs should never be āset it and forget it.ā Businesses change. Employees change. Criminal tactics change. Your security program needs to evolve with them.
With the holiday season approaching, now is the time to ask:
If someone tested our security program tomorrow, are we as prepared as we think we are?
At Sapphire Risk Advisory Group, our goal isnāt to sell you equipment. Our goal is to help keep your people safe and your business in business.
Contact Tony Gallo at [email protected] / 512 422 7600 if it had been more than two years since your last 3rd party security risk assessment

Virginia Cannabis Applicants: You May Have Only 10 Days to Fix a Problem
Under Virginiaās current draft cannabis regulations, a selected applicant will have only 10 calendar days to provide additional information or documents requested by the Virginia Cannabis Control Authority after submitting a license application.
In the cannabis industry, this is commonly called a ācure period.ā
Under Virginia 3VAC10-30-120(B), the 10-day clock begins on the date the Authority requests the additional information, not when the applicant finds time to review the request.
Ten days is not much time.
More importantly, applicants should not view this as an opportunity to rewrite or substantially improve a weak application. A missing document, incomplete response, or incorrect submission could still cause an application to be rejected or receive a lower score. Minnesota provided applicants with 14 calendar days to correct license application deficiencies, and more than 80% of the original applications reportedly required some form of correction. Virginiaās proposed turnaround period is even shorter.
In a highly competitive licensing round, applicants should not build their strategy around being allowed to fix mistakes later. The goal must be to submit a complete, compliant, and competitive application the first time.
For more than 13 years, Sapphire Risk Advisory Group has helped cannabis applicants navigate licensing, compliance, security planning, facility design, SOP development, and operational readiness.
No one can guarantee a win, but preparation, experience, and attention to detail can help separate a competitive application from the rest of the field.
When a properly prepared license application matters, deadlines are tight, and there may be no second chance, isnāt that the experience you want in your corner?
Sapphire can help you compete and position your team to win.

Sometimes the best feedback is the most honest feedback.
Usually, our Managing Partner, Tony Gallo, steals the limelight when it comes to success stories, but this time, one of our clients recently sent this message to Sapphire Risk Advisory Group team member Haley Glover:
āThank you, Haley! I can genuinely say I probably wouldāve lost my āmindā if I didnāt have your help through this whole process.ā Except she didnāt use the word āmindā š
Haley, thank you for your patience, professionalism, and dedication to our clients. Cannabis designs and buildouts can be stressful, complicated, and overwhelming, but you consistently help our clients navigate the process with confidence.
Weāre grateful to have you on the Sapphire team, and clearly, our clients are too!
Who has your back when it comes to receiving a license, building out your location, or saving you money by preventing theft?

Beyond the License: What Will Your Cannabis Business Bring to the Community?
Over the last 13 years, we have met with officials from more than 150 municipalities across the country to discuss cannabis businesses and their potential impact on local communities. Some meetings have gone extremely well, and others, not so much. But every meeting has taught me something valuable.
For the past several months, we have been meeting with officials from various Virginia towns and cities across the state about cannabis licensing. Just like officials in other cannabis-friendly states, they often ask the same important question:
āHow will a cannabis business add value to our community?ā
The answer must go beyond jobs and tax revenue. A responsible cannabis business can revitalize vacant properties, support local organizations, create career opportunities, strengthen relationships with law enforcement, invest in public safety, and become a trusted community partner. However, local approval isn't just about having a good business plan. Cannabis business owners must clearly communicate their value, address community concerns, and demonstrate that they are prepared to operate safely and responsibly.
That is where experience matters.
Sapphire Risk Advisory Group helps cannabis license applicants prepare for and present to local officials. We understand the questions officials are likely to ask, the concerns they need addressed, and how applicants can clearly explain the long-term value their business will bring to the community.
You are not simply asking for permission to open a cannabis business. You are asking a community to welcome you as a neighbor, employer, taxpayer, and partner.
Be prepared to show them why they should, and that paying local taxes shouldnāt be the only reason.
