one week ago, we opened the doors to Afrodressing. 🪮🇯🇵🪮
and a room full of people came curious, dressed, stayed awhile + helped us turn an idea into something real.
a week later, we’re still finding pieces of the night we didn’t see while we were inside of it.
the conversations. the clothes. the Afros. the matcha. the sound. the people who stayed upstairs. the people who met each other. the little things happening in the corners.
maybe that’s what an archive is. not the recap, but everything that keeps revealing itself after.

HAPPY NATIONAL AFRO DAY! we’re out here creating magic with DYNASTY texture. ❣️
for AFRODRESSING there were two completely different studies in form. one carved through strong lines + geometry. one sculpted through dressing + architecture. both asking the same question we carried through Afrodressing: what else can the Afro become?

one of the things I talked about during my interview for Crowning Glory: An Ode to Black Hair.
there was a time when so much of our hair was about being acceptable. being polished enough. professional enough. soft enough. agreeable enough.
and I’m interested in what happens when we stop asking our hair to do that.
when the Afro gets bigger.
when the shape gets stranger.
when we stop shrinking it.
when our hair becomes a way of saying something before we ever open our mouths.
our hair has always been a language.
and lately, I think mine has been saying:
I’m less interested in being agreeable.
I’m more interested in being seen as my full self.
so grateful to be part of Crowning Glory and to have my story documented alongside of Dallas’s own queen of natural hair Isis Brantley .
