🔥 WILDFIRE SMOKE REACHES MANSFIELD 🔥

The haze and smell of smoke across Mansfield today are connected to the Ross Fire, an active wildfire burning approximately 60 miles west of Fort Worth in Palo Pinto and Jack counties.

The fire has burned approximately 80,000 acres, damaged property, disrupted nearby communities, and required a large response from local and state resources. Firefighters, emergency responders, law enforcement personnel, aircraft crews, emergency managers, and support teams from across Texas continue working to contain the fire and protect those in its path.

Although there is currently no known wildfire threatening Mansfield, smoke from the fire is being carried into our area by the wind. Residents with asthma or other respiratory conditions may want to limit their time outdoors while these conditions continue.

Please remain aware of your immediate surroundings. If you see flames, a concentrated column of smoke, or smoke coming from a specific home, business, vehicle, field, or wooded area, call 9-1-1. If you are uncertain whether what you are seeing could be a local emergency, please call. We would rather investigate than have an active fire go unreported.

The Mansfield Police Department stands in support of every firefighter, emergency responder, dispatcher, emergency manager, and volunteer working long hours in difficult conditions to protect lives, property, and communities affected by this fire. We are grateful for their continued service and commitment.
