Today marks the birthday of crew member Siv Ulla Engstrom.

Born on 21 September, 1937 in Gothenburg, Sweden, Siv was one of two siblings, with a sister. She joined Pan American World Airways on 05 June, 1960 and was based in New York, before becoming one of the charter members of the London base in 1972. She was kind and always ready to share her knowledge of her profession. Siv was a very spiritual person and was always willing to take anyone who needed help under her wing.

Siv's interests were broad, ranging from psychology and Chinese philosophy to classical music and theatre. She also had a gift for languages and was fluent in Swedish, English, German, French, and Spanish.

Siv was particularly well known for her involvement with charitable fund-raising events, particularly Save the Children UK, for which she organised a very popular annual Christmas Fair at the London base. Siv was a resident of Windsor, Berkshire, and her neighbours there remembered her selling toys for charity the week commencing 19 December 1988.

On 21 December 1988, Siv was one of 16 crew members who boarded Pan Am flight 103 at Heathrow Airport. As the senior flight attendant on board, it is likely she was assigned to either the First Class or Clipper Class cabins that evening, providing in-flight service to the passengers seated there. This was to have been one of her last flights as she was planning to retire in 1989.

Following the destruction of Pan Am Flight 103 by a terrorist bomb, Siv was recovered from Sector D (Tundergarth) on 23 December 1988. Officers of Dumfries & Galloway Constabulary and Lothian and Borders Police, supported by other first responders, were involved in her recovery and in returning her to her family.

Siv was 51 years old when she was murdered. The Lockerbie Memorial Church Museum - LMCM is honoured to remember her.

And so the story goes on…..

Our Founder & Chair, Victoria Cummock, was quoted in yesterday's Annandale Herald regarding the delay of the trial in the United States of Abu Agila Mohamed Mas'ud Kheir Al-Marimi, the man alleged to have built the bomb that destroyed Pan Am Flight 103 on 21 December 1988.

The Criminal Court ruled on September 15, 2026, to delay the trial to January 20, 2027, due to the highly complex nature of this case and the recent discovery of voluminous evidence located in numerous other countries.

Additional time is required to process the evidence for trial and prepare prospective experts and witnesses.

Pan American World Airways, one of the most iconic airlines in aviation history, is officially making a comeback. After ceasing operations in 1991, the legendary American carrier has been gone for more than three decades. Now it is moving again. Here is the full story.

🔹 It started with new ownership in 2024. A group led by Steven Craig of Craig Realty Group, alongside CEO Craig Carter, acquired the rights to the Pan Am brand. Their goal is to bring the airline back as a real, flying airline.

🔹 The brand is already back in the sky, but only for the rich. Since June 2025, the new Pan Am has been operating private luxury charter flights. The latest one, called Tracing the Transpacific, departed San Francisco on April 11, 2026. Tickets cost $94,495 per person.

🔹 The big news: Pan Am has filed for full FAA certification. On October 9, 2025, Pan Am formally began the FAA Part 121 certification process. This is the same certification that American, Delta, and United hold. It allows an airline to fly scheduled commercial service.

🔹 Will normal people be able to book Pan Am flights? Eventually, yes. But it is not happening yet. Pan Am has not announced any routes or launch dates. For now, the only way to fly Pan Am is the luxury charter trips. Avi8 Air Capital, the company leading the effort, hopes to start scheduled service sometime in 2026.

🔹 Will it have the same logo and livery? Yes. The classic blue and white Pan Am livery, the famous globe logo, and the iconic crew uniforms are already being used. The new ownership is fully leaning into the brand's heritage.

🔹 The plan: Miami, Airbus, and growth. The new Pan Am will be headquartered in Miami. The fleet will be made up of Airbus aircraft, starting with 4 and growing to 16 over the first 4 years.

🔹 The bigger picture. This is not the first time someone has tried to bring Pan Am back. Several previous attempts in 1996, 1998, 2004, and 2011 all failed. The new ownership group says this time is different.
