Safe, supportive environments are the foundation of student success.

In a new op-ed, our DAS CEO, Kevin Malonson, and DISD Trustee, Sarah Weinberg, make the case that school safety and academic progress go hand in hand. When kids feel secure at school, they can engage and learn. DISD's recent gains show what's possible when campuses invest in that security, from trained staff to mental health supports to strong relationships between students and the adults around them.

Our CEO, Kevin Malonson, is in D Magazine this week making the case for investing in Dallas afterschool and summer programs!

The numbers are stark: of the roughly 380,000 school-age kids in Dallas County, only about 84,000 have access to an afterschool program. That means over 100,000 children have no adult supervision between 3 and 6pm on school days, and free or low-cost options meet just 17% of the need.

Kevin writes about what that gap means for families, especially in summer, when working parents have even more hours to cover with even fewer options.

This spring, we successfully trained six emerging tutors and youth professionals, and we’re excited to continue growing the OST workforce through our summer cohort.

Whether you’re:
- Working in an afterschool or summer program
- Exploring a career in education or youth development
- Looking to strengthen your tutoring skills
- Interested in starting your own tutoring practice

This training is designed to help you grow skills you can immediately use with students.

Participants will gain:
- National Tutoring Association certification
