Last Sunday, we talked about the role of elders at Watermark. This weekend, we continued the conversation by sharing where our elders stand on women in church leadership and why women are an important part of God’s mission here at Watermark.

To the women of Watermark: thank you! We’re so grateful for the ways you faithfully lead, teach, disciple, serve, and use your gifts throughout our church family.

Through Jesus, every believer has direct access to God and the privilege of helping one another live fully surrendered to him. 🙌

From our message "The Responsibility of Elders", we looked at how elders are called to steward Jesus’s church, remain qualified for the office, and faithfully shepherd and protect the people entrusted to their care.

Watch or listen to the message on YouTube, watermark.org, the Watermark app, or wherever you stream.

On Sunday, TA continued in Acts 20 and unpacked the unique responsibility God has entrusted to elders. We looked at how elders are called to steward Jesus’s church, remain qualified for the office, and faithfully shepherd and protect the people entrusted to their care. TA also shared updates about the future of our elder team.

And Sunday wasn’t the only time our church family gathered this week! On Thursday, our church family gathered for Night of Prayer and Worship, while Women’s Bible Study, Men’s Bible Study, Discover Missions, and other ministries began a new semester.

There’s a lot happening this fall, and we’re praying that through it all, God would deepen our affection for him, reverence for his Word, and desire to carry the gospel to the ends of the earth.

WHAT IS THE WATERMARK INSTITUTE?

Christ in you, displayed through your love, words, and actions, can be one of the most compelling reasons for unbelievers to turn to Christ.

As followers of Jesus, we each have opportunities to influence the people around us and glorify God through the way we lead in our homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, and church.

Who is the greatest leader you have ever known? 🤔

In Sunday’s message, we looked at Paul’s example in Acts 20 of what it means to be a leader worth following: a leader with character, who walks in humility, cares deeply for people, has the courage to speak truth, and remains faithful to the ministry God has given them.

Paul’s words remind us that leadership isn’t reserved for a select few. As followers of Jesus, we each have opportunities to influence the people around us and glorify God through the way we lead in our homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, and church.

Two weeks ago, we prayed for and commissioned our next missionary family before they head to the Middle East. Comment "RIVERS" to read their full story 📲 and join us in praying for wisdom, protection, and that God would bring people to himself through their efforts.

WHO ARE THE RIVERS FAMILY?
The Rivers Family will be based in the Middle East, serving churches throughout North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Here, they will meet needs amidst crisis so that new churches can grow. Their team will work to share the love story of Jesus, disciple people through the Bible, develop leaders, plant churches, respond to disasters, and provide medical care.

WHAT DOES MISSIONS AT WATERMARK LOOK LIKE?
Jesus calls us to make disciples of all nations. As a sending church, we pray for unreached people groups, support international ministries, and respond to the call to go. Our aim is to be consistently engaged in advancing the gospel to the nations (Matthew 28:19-20).

The majority of Watermark’s sending efforts are focused on unreached people groups—more than three billion people around the world who have little to no access to Scripture and virtually no Christ-followers in their communities.

As we continue to remember the lives lost on 9/11, the assassination of Charlie Kirk, and those killed in school shootings last fall, we are reminded of the painful reality of evil and suffering in our world.

Weeks like this bring difficult questions to the surface: If God is good, why does he allow evil? Where is our hope when the world feels so broken?

The Bible doesn’t ask us to ignore those questions. The truth of Scripture helps us understand the reality of evil, how God responds to it, and how followers of Jesus can live with hope for the future.

Evil and suffering are real, whether they unfold in the headlines or quietly in our own lives. But because of Christ, Satan does not have the final word. One day, God will bring perfect justice and make all things new. Until then, we can grieve honestly, examine our own hearts, turn to God and put our faith in Christ, and faithfully love and serve others.

Sunday was full in the best way. We worshiped and prayed together, commissioned our next missionary family, continued our journey in the book of Acts, celebrated 35 followers of Jesus taking the faithful step of baptism at the pond, and witnessed the return of one of our favorite teaching tools: TA’s tubs (IYKYK!)

In the message, TA walked through Acts 19 to discuss the reality of the devil and demons. We were reminded to live awake to the enemy’s schemes, but even more awake to the victory, power, and authority we have in Christ.

Watch or listen to the message on YouTube, watermark.org, the Watermark app, or wherever you stream. The message and discussion guide are also available on our website.
