Design For Change: Dallas
Design For Change is a global movement that seeks to empowers children to be the change they wish to see in the world. This is Design For Change: Dallas.
Design for Change (DFC) is a project based program that guides young students through four steps: Feel, Imagine, Do and Share. The students will "feel" a problem in their school or community, "imagine" how they would fix this issue, choose on of these solutions to "do" throughout their school year and then "share" their project with other DFC participants they are competing against. This specific chapter was founded by ACU honors students participating in the Justice and Urban Studies Team last year in Dallas. These students include Bethany Richardson, Alan Songer, Nicole Ramos and Molly Clemans. We are proud to say, with the guidance of the 4 ACU students mentioned above, one of the classes at Charles Rice Elementary won the DFC USA competition and traveled to India to present at the worldwide DFC celebration about the project that they came up with. This year, 9 students participating in the JUST team have moved to Dallas to participate in the continuation of the program while Bethany, Alan, Nicole and Molly have moved back onto campus to finish up their schooling! The 2014-2015 DFC teams consists of Austin (activities curriculum and Twitter), Alex (activities curriculum), Amanda (funding), Barrett (activities curriculum), Courtney (research), Julie (curriculum), Taylor (main contact and PR), Tessa (curriculum) and Wes (curriculum). We are excited to be the DFC 2014-2015 team and hope to lay the ground work for DFC: Dallas to continue on into years to come. If you would like to know more about DFC: Dallas, feel free to contact Taylor Bush via Facebook or email ([email protected])

Another from last week:
We are continually blown away by the middle schoolers at St. Anthony. About a month ago they raised funds through a school-wide bake sale and last week they were given the opportunity to meet with some staff at DFW Rescue Me and present them with the raised funds in person. This organization is so near and dear to these kiddos hearts and we are so thankful that they came to visit us (and even brought along a furry friend for us to meet too!). Thank you DFW Rescue Me for being leaders in our community; we appreciate everything y'all do!!

Last week Charles Rice 3rd grade partnered with The Stewpot in providing "manna bags" for the homeless. We had a great time putting the bags together, hearing from Jordan about the services their organization provide for the homeless population in Dallas, as well as receiving some special gifts to remember all the hard work put into making this day happen. Thank you The Stewpot for the pressed pennies, book bags, and painted greeting cards made by the homeless; they are gifts we will forever be grateful for. And THANK YOU for everything you do in our community, too!
Charles Rice 3rd graders, we are SO proud of you!!!!

Last week Senior Corporal Christine Smith came and spoke to our kiddos about Community Safety. She touched on discipline, following directions, and reporting crimes. We are so thankful for her and the many others that keep our community safe! Thank you, Charles Rice 5th graders, for putting this assembly together. We appreciate your hard work!
