When people talk about the great love stories connected to The Beatles, John and Yoko usually dominate the conversation. But one of the longest-lasting and most stable relationships in the Beatles universe belongs to Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach.
The simple answer is yes: by every public measure, their marriage appears to have been remarkably happy, supportive, and enduring.
Ringo and Barbara first met in 1980 while filming the comedy Caveman. At the time, neither was looking for another marriage. Both had already been through failed relationships and understood the pressures that came with fame. Yet their connection developed quickly, and they married on April 27, 1981, in London, with fellow Beatles Paul McCartney and George Harrison among the guests. More than four decades later, they are still together. In 2026, the couple celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary, an extraordinary milestone in any industry, let alone the world of rock and Hollywood.
Of course, their marriage was not perfect.
In fact, the late 1980s brought one of the most difficult periods of their lives. Both struggled with alcohol and substance abuse. Ringo later admitted that much of the 1970s and early 1980s had become a blur because of his addiction. In 1988, the couple entered rehab together and committed themselves to sobriety. It proved to be one of the most important decisions either of them ever made. More than 37 years later, Ringo has remained sober and has often spoken about how dramatically his life changed after treatment. Barbara went through that journey beside him every step of the way.
What makes their relationship especially interesting is that neither has ever tried to present it as a fairy tale.
When asked in 2025 about the secret to a successful marriage after nearly 44 years together, Ringo's answer was refreshingly honest. He said there was no secret. Some days are good, some days are difficult, and sometimes he does something foolish. Then they work through it and move on. That answer may sound simple, but it probably explains why their relationship has lasted so long. They never expected perfection from each other.
Barbara has been equally straightforward. Over the years, she has repeatedly emphasized that the foundation of their marriage is simply love and commitment. She once summed it up with characteristic simplicity: "I love the man, and that's it." After more than four decades together, that statement carries a lot of weight.
Another factor often overlooked is that they built a blended family that seems to have worked remarkably well. Between them, they brought five children into the marriage from previous relationships. Rather than creating public drama, they created a stable family environment that has lasted for decades. Today, they are grandparents and even great-grandparents, something neither could have imagined when they met on a movie set in 1980.
Perhaps the strongest evidence of their happiness is not found in interviews or anniversary photographs. It is the fact that after 45 years together, they still choose to spend most of their time side by side. Whether attending charity events, traveling, supporting each other's projects, or simply appearing together in public, they continue to look less like a celebrity couple and more like two people who genuinely enjoy each other's company.
In a world where fame often destroys relationships, Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach built something surprisingly ordinary.
And perhaps that is exactly why it has lasted.
Not because their marriage was perfect.
But because they kept choosing each other, year after year.
