Classical Music Month is a good reminder that music appreciation goes beyond the classroom. A field trip to a symphony or opera performance may be a child's first time hearing one in person. But when budgets are tight, the arts and field trips are often the first items to get cut. Your PTO or PTA's fundraiser can make that experience possible.

Still building your volunteer list for the year? September is prime recruiting season. Ask new families directly. They're often more willing to help than you'd expect; they just need to be asked. When you do ask, be specific: describe each role and how much time it takes, so people can see exactly where they'd fit in. And once someone signs on, a little recognition, a shout-out at a meeting or in the newsletter, goes a long way toward keeping them engaged all year.

On Constitution Day, it's worth remembering that your PTA or PTO bylaws work a lot like a constitution; they set the rules for how your group runs: officer duties, elections, committees, and how funds are handled. September is Better Breakfast Month. National PTA has long supported nutrition education and school breakfast participation through its Healthy Lifestyles programs, so talking with families about the importance of a good breakfast is right in line with what PTAs already do. Consider sharing a few easy breakfast tips at your next meeting or newsletter.

On Grandparents Day, we're reminded how many grandparents show up to bake sales, book fairs, and game nights right alongside parents. If yours are already part of your volunteer team, take a minute today to thank them. And if they're not, today's a good day to invite them to get involved.

Fall fundraising season is here. Before you launch your first event, pick a clear goal, set a timeline, and put someone in charge of tracking every dollar in and out. Walk the event space ahead of time and look for hazards like extension cords, uneven walkways, or crowded entry points, and set aside 10-15% of your budget for unexpected costs. A little structure early on saves a lot of headaches later.
