Serving some serious side-eye this Texas Tortoise Day. 👀🐢 Meet Willie, our Texas tortoise and a master of the judgmental glance.
Texas tortoises are Texas’ only native tortoise species and are found in limited regions of South Texas, where they play an important role in the ecosystem. They are highly adapted to their environment and have strong homing instincts, often remaining closely connected to the same home ranges over time. They grow slowly, live long lives, and produce only a small number of offspring, which makes every adult critical to the population. If you’re lucky enough to spot one in the wild, take a photo, appreciate this Texas original.
Things are about to get MESSI in Dallas. ⚽ Ahead of Monday’s Argentina vs. Austria matchup, we asked our South American experts (capybaras) for their prediction. Results are… unclear. Allegiances questionable. Geography possibly ignored. They’re leaning toward Austria after settling on the snacks on that side of the habitat.

Well... this is awkward. 😅 As England's mascot, you'd think our lionesses would back the Three Lions. Instead, after choosing between soccer-themed enrichment, they picked Croatia to win tomorrow's FIFA World Cup match here in Dallas.
Will the pride’s prediction come true? 🦁⚽
The cutest thing you’ll see today 😍

Some hatchling news to brighten your day 💜 We've recently welcomed a violet turaco chick! Violet turaco chicks don’t start out quite so vibrant — their iconic violet-blue coloring develops gradually as they mature, meaning plenty of change is still to come. That’s where cute chick checkups come in, helping our zoologists track important milestones, monitor development, and ensure this chick continues to thrive every step of the way. See if you can catch a glimpse of this growing chick in the Forest Aviary!
