We are thrilled to announce Eugene Barnes as one of the panelists for our Recovery Panel at the One-Year Celebration! - SMART Recovery Oak Cliff!

Eugene Barnes is a Baltimore City native in long-term recovery and the Senior Volunteer Manager for The Phoenix, where he supports volunteers across Texas and Oklahoma. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Southern New Hampshire University and has a background in corporate retail management, having worked for major brands such as 7-Eleven, Macy’s, and Gap Inc. Eugene also served as an Aftercare Specialist and Facilitator at a leading drug rehabilitation center in Northern Michigan.

Before transitioning into nonprofit and recovery work, Eugene had an 18-year career as a professional ballet dancer. He began his career in 2004 with Carolina Ballet, where he rose to the rank of Soloist in 2009 and was twice nominated for the prestigious Princess Grace Award. He also performed with Paul Mejia International, Grand Rapids Ballet, and Avant Chamber Ballet, where he later served as Director of Training and Principal Dancer. Eugene retired from ballet in 2022.
