On This Day in 1979, AC/DC Released Highway to Hell

On July 27, 1979, AC/DC released Highway to Hell, the album that transformed the Australian hard rock band into an international powerhouse. It was the final studio album to feature legendary frontman Bon Scott, whose charismatic voice and rebellious attitude helped define the band's identity.

Produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange, the album delivered a more polished sound without sacrificing AC/DC's raw energy. The title track became one of the greatest rock anthems of all time, while songs like "Girls Got Rhythm," "Touch Too Much," and "Shot Down in Flames" remain fan favorites decades later.

Tragically, Bon Scott died just seven months after the album's release, making Highway to Hell his final studio recording. Today, it is regarded as one of the greatest hard rock albums ever made and the record that paved the way for AC/DC's historic breakthrough with Back in Black.
