The calendar may say fall is around the corner, but North Texas gardens still have plenty going on. 🌱

The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden has put together a useful collection of gardening resources for every season, including monthly garden checklists, plant tips, videos and virtual garden tours.

For September, their recommendations include adding fall color, planting cool-season vegetables and getting new rose shrubs in the ground.

Today we’re celebrating the hardworking people on our Living Earth team and throughout the communities we serve.

All Living Earth locations are closed today so our employees can enjoy the holiday with family and friends. We’ll be back tomorrow, ready to help with whatever you’re growing or building next.

Keep tomatoes and jalapeños hydrated during August heat - use this simple trick to turn plastic water bottles into slow-drip irrigators. ☀️ 🍅 🌶️

Here’s how (trial and error is often part of the process!):
💧 Cut the bottom off a 2 liter plastic bottle.
💧 Use a hot needle to poke a tiny hole in the bottle's lid. Secure lid back onto the bottle.
💧 Cut off the bottom or make a flap so you can fill with water as needed.
💧 Cut the bottom off a second 2 liter plastic bottle, remove cap, and nest the first bottle inside the second cap-less bottle (this system helps prevent clogging).
💧 Face the nested bottles upside down several inches into the soil next to your tomato plant roots.
💧 Lift the flap and fill the interior bottle with water so moisture will slowly reach the roots instead of running off the surface.

Pair with a layer of organic mulch to help reduce evaporation and keep soil temperatures more consistent during Texas' hottest weeks.
