Jason Ky '28, a junior sports management major, DFW native and player personnel specialist with SMU football, shows us why this park, just 10 minutes from campus, is a team favorite! Meet Professor Eric Larson, associate professor of computer science at SMU Lyle. His research explores how machine learning can transform health, from diagnosis to patient care, one of the clearest examples of the kind of work happening across SMU's labs. It's also what makes an SMU education different: students learning directly from researchers pushing the boundaries of their field, work that's preparing the next generation of leaders in tech and health.

Big news on the Hilltop! U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright visited SMU to announce $25 million in energy and industry funding for engineering professor Dr. Saeed Salehi, the largest individual research funding commitment in SMU's history.
The funding will build W2M-GROUND, the Well-to-Mine Proving Ground: the world's first synthetic mine embedded in an advanced drilling and sensing facility, designed to move mining innovation from the lab to the field.

One of the great privileges of being a Mustang is having the George W. Bush Presidential Center on our own campus, where moving and eye opening nights like this happen.
On Wednesday, our community had the chance to hear from two leaders who guided the nation through one of its defining moments. President George W. Bush and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice came together for "A Legacy of Service: America at the 25th Anniversary of 9/11," part of the Engage at the Bush Center series presented by NexPoint, reflecting on the enduring impact of the attacks and the spirit of service that followed.

Working with the Dallas County Food Plan Collaborative, SMU's Masters of Arts in Design and Innovation (MADI) program is connecting people already tackling food access by using human-centered design to build a stronger, more nutritious food system for Dallas.

For teachers, the best educational video game isn't about the game. It's about what students learn from playing it.
A new study from SMU researchers found that when middle school teachers were brought into the design process for Factory Craft, an educational Minecraft-based game, they focused far more on learning outcomes than on gameplay. 82% of their design contributions centered on what students needed to learn rather than how the game played, a result the researchers say points to more effective educational games.

This summer, Bailey Kamau ’27 served with Mission Oak Cliff — stocking the food pantry, organizing volunteers and serving meals. When a nearby gas explosion displaced local families, she also helped the nonprofit step in when the residents needed it most.
