From a packed booth to nonstop demos, EMS World kept us moving. We loved seeing the reaction to Handtevy Mobile’s new look and functionality, built to make key workflows faster and easier to access in the field. Attendees also got to see ScanSafe™ live and how barcode medication verification can add an important safety check right into their workflow. Beyond the booth, Dr. Peter Antevy, our Founder & CMO, took the stage for several talks throughout the week.

One of the biggest hits? Our ScanSafe™ game and T-shirt giveaway where we put barcode medication verification front and center while giving attendees a hands-on look at the value of adding that verification step into their workflow.

A look inside our week at 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝘂𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 🚑🤠

Kiersten Morphonios and Patrick Bavaro kept the Handtevy booth busy, giving attendees an early look at our redesigned home screen (launching October 15) and walking them through some of the newest functionality in Handtevy Mobile.

On Tuesday, Dan Moran and Dr. Peter Antevy joined us for a dinner we hosted with 20+ shared Handtevy and First Due clients, bringing everyone together for a great night in Nashville. 💥

To close out the conference, Peter took the stage to share Florida’s stroke, cardiac arrest, and pediatric readiness data, highlighting how giving agencies and hospitals the ability to see and compare their performance can help drive better patient outcomes.

NEW IN JACS: We've been waiting too long to call injured kids unstable.

WHY IT MATTERS: A 7-year-old with a systolic of 95 looks fine by PALS. This study says he's already at risk of dying.

THE STUDY: 233,490 injured kids ages 1 to 15, ACS TQIP 2018 to 2023. The authors worked backward from the data, asking what blood pressure, heart rate, and shock index actually separated the kids who died from the kids who lived.

THE HEADLINE FINDING: The blood pressure numbers that predicted death were 15 to 30 mmHg higher than the PALS hypotension numbers we teach.

PALS called 1.3% of these kids hypotensive
❗The new numbers called 8.7% of them at risk
❗Start worrying around 90 to 110 mmHg, not 72 to 90

WHAT DIDN'T CHANGE: Heart rate cutoffs matched what we already use for age-adjusted tachycardia. Shock index cutoffs landed right on SIPA. That's a national dataset backing up SIPA, which was originally built from just two hospitals.

YES, BUT: The models were only moderately predictive. One set of vitals on arrival, no prehospital data. The 1 to 2 year group was the messiest, probably from wrong-size BP cuffs, so don't change practice on that row.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Tachycardia is still the early warning we thought it was. Blood pressure is the one that's been lying to us. A normal pressure in an injured child is not reassurance, and waiting for PALS hypotension means waiting for the crash.

WHAT'S NEXT: Re-teaching medics, nurses, and physicians on what unstable looks like, and linking prehospital to hospital records so we're watching trends instead of one number at the door.
