The Gorman Museum of Native American Art at UC Davis presents "Gifts from the Heart: New Acquisitions at the Gorman" which opens on Sept. 23. Showcasing new gifts from private collections across the country, the exhibition features a selection of artworks by more than 40 artists in a range of media including sculpture, painting, prints, mixed media, ceramics, basketry and carving. Runs through March 14, 2027.

On Thursday, Oct. 1, the Department of Music kicks off the 2026-2027 academic year celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Ann E. Pitzer Center. The day's Shinkoskey Noon Concert features Chris Froh, percussionist, and Natsuki Fukasawa, pianist, performing alongside their students, including pianist Angelina Melis, a double major in music and human development. The program includes Japanese Traditionals: "Sakura" and "Oedo Nihonbashi" with Sarah Siu. Graduate student composer Guang Yang's "Wooden Skeleton’s Whimsical" (a premiere) featuring Megan Shieh (B.A., music ’08), and Eric Whitacre’s "Sleep" (arranged). Natsuki Fukasawa will perform Johannes Brahms’s Piano Trio No. 1 in B Major, accompanied by Igor Veligan, violin; and Mike Dahlberg, cello. Join us at the Pitzer Center at 12:05 p.m. for this musical celebration. Free and open to all.

From Mariachi to Bluegrass to jazz to concert choir to symphony orchestra, the department offers a wide range of music ensembles for students to participate in -- open to all UC Davis students, you do not have to be a music major to join an ensemble. Evie Ladin, who has been the guest caller at numerous end-of-quarter Campus Square Dances hosted by the Dept. of Music's Bluegrass and Old Time String Band, will be performing with her band, Keith Terry and Erik Pearson, on Thursday, Sept. 3 at Davis Odd Fellows. The UC Davis Department of Music is looking for a career stage manager, who has:
Experience stage-managing a music performance.
Experience working with and leading a crew that has a variety of experience levels, including student crew members.
Experience acting in one or more of the following capacities in a performance setting: light board operator, live-audio mixing engineer, or video technician. Experience operating power tools, hand tools, and pneumatic equipment within safety guidelines.
Experience working with a wide variety of users, including regional, national, or internationally-known artists. Experience using electronic scheduling software, as well as diagram-making software (examples include Vectorworks, OmniGraffle, VISIO, CAD, Google Sketch).

The “National Masterwork Chorus,” which features nearly 70 singers from UC Davis and approximately 20 singers from the Granite Bay High School (directed by UC Davis music alum Susanna Peeples), will perform in Stern Hall, Carnegie Hall in New York on Saturday, June 20 at 1 pm. The ensemble will perform Rosephanye Powell’s "The Cry of Jeremiah" which the UC Davis and Granite Bay singers recently performed at the Mondavi Center. Featuring a guest orchestra and Dr. Rosephanye Powell as narrator, UC Davis Professor of Teaching Nicolás Alberto Dosman will serve as conductor. Presented by the collaborative concert producer, National Concerts, this special concert program likely represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the students performing.

Percussion Ensemble member Jason Pieck will be honored as the university’s top graduating senior when thousands celebrate earning a bachelor’s degree at five commencement ceremonies at Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center June 12-14. Pieck will be presented with the University Medal — for excellence in undergraduate studies, outstanding community service and the promise of future scholarship and contributions to society — as well as a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering at the ceremony at 9 a.m. June 14. Lecturer Matilda Hofman is the artistic director of the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble. This coming weekend, June 6 and 7, she conducts two performances of "A Soldier’s Tale & Steam." Featuring members of the UC Davis Empyrean Ensemble, the concert features the world premiere of David Dominique's "Steam" and Igor Stravinsky's "A Soldier’s Tale." Performances are in San Francisco.
