The Imagining America National Gathering is just a month away! Participants currently registered are eligible to sign up to attend a community-hosted site visit (on Saturday October 24, 3:15-5:30pm) when the separate sign up process opens on Monday October 5th at 9am PT / 10am MT / 11am CT / 12pm ET.

Imagining America is pleased to announce the 2026-2027 JGS Fellowship cohort!

The IA/JGS Fellows Program provides an opportunity for publicly engaged undergraduate students who attend an IA member higher education institution, or who are sponsored by an IA member cultural institution, and who work with photography and/or digital media to participate in a year-long learning exchange that includes tuition support, project support, and opportunities for professional development.

Over the course of the fellowship year, each JGS Fellow will:

• Receive a $2,000 tuition scholarship.
• Receive mentorship and financial support for a community project.
• Attend Imagining America’s National Gathering at University of California, Davis (Davis, CA) from October 23-25, 2026. Complimentary registration and travel support are included.
• Participate in regular, virtual learning exchanges.
• Be connected to the consortium’s national network of scholars, artists, and community organizers.

The opening plenary at the 2026 IA National Gathering, Tides of Transformation: Restoring Collective Spirit in Troubled Times, features Q***r Black Feminist Love Evangelist ALEXIS PAULINE GUMBS speaking on “Every Night": June Jordan and the Orbit of Freedom. Gumbs is a former PAGE fellow and the inaugural recipient of the IA Julie Ellison Vision Award; she is/they are the author of several books, most recently Survival is a Promise: The Eternal Life of Audre Lorde and the award-winning Undrowned: Black Feminist Lessons from Marine Mammals.

Join us for the next session of the DIGITAL DIVESTMENT ROUND TABLE tomorrow June 24, 10am PST.

The first step in the 5D method (created by Appstinence, a student group at Harvard University) is PREPARE, followed by decrease, deactivate, delete, downgrade, and depart. This will be the focus for the second session of the Digital Divestment Roundtable, as we learn how to protect ourselves from the surveillance apparatus (practical tips for how to deactivate AI on platforms, turn off tracking features, etc) and start to create a personal plan for how we would like to engage with digital ecosystems.
